The Writers' Group will meet in my home, given that the heat in the library is still off when I last checked. (And it is brrrrrrisk out there.) We will meet at 1:30 on Monday, February 6th. My house is 508, the last house on Old Tiffany Road. There will be coffee/tea/biscotti/scones/chocolate Valentines. The focus will still be on memoir, and you are welcome but not required to bring a short piece on a reflection of your own. I apologize; I will not have a white board. (It is stored in the library.). And I will not have photocopies. But we can proceed with Improv Theater. Forewarning: I have a lively dog. Focus: what do you see as the particular challenges of memoir, effective techniques? It's a cold one this morning here at the farm and we are expecting below zero weather throughout the day. The farm animals are all warm, dry, fed and watered. Fresh bedding adds another layer of warmth for the cattle, pigs and laying hens.
We'll have our farm stand open through the weekend. It's been such a pleasure seeing everyone. We've been exchanging recipes (see below), catching up, and sharing stories.
Our seasonal produce offerings include - carrots, onions, garlic, apples, squash, and sweet potatoes. The produce farmers expect to have more greens available for us in about 3 weeks.
We stocked our fridge shelves with some amazing salami from Walnut Hill Farm. Just in time for the super bowl! Add some cheese curds, maple almonds and you've got yourself an award winning charcuterie board! With the cold temps this weekend, don't forget to grab some Brown's Orchard apple cider. Mulled cider is a must this time of year.
Pots of chili, soups and stews are on tap for the weekend as well. Start with our ground beef, beef shanks, or ham hocks and you'll be a star in your kitchen! We've got a bit of everything here in the farm stand. Drop on by when you're out and about and check us out! We'd love to see you. We're open 12:00 - 5:00!

Vermont State Parks Seeks Public Input for Parks Modernization Study Montpelier, VT (December 15, 2022) – Vermont State Parks is seeking public input as part of a modernization study that is currently underway. This study will provide a comprehensive assessment of the state park system including park amenities, operations, maintenance, revenue, and program delivery. It will identify key challenges, and resources needed to maintain core services and enhance offerings to meet current and future demands. Nate McKeen, Director of State Parks elaborates, "Throughout the years, with considerable public support and prudent management, Vermont State Parks have weathered societal changes and economic challenges of all sorts. Now, as we approach the 100th anniversary of Vermont state parks in 2024, and as park visitation continues to increase, this study will help us create a road map for the future of our state parks." FPR is seeking public input and feedback about the park system, its infrastructure, programming, prices, and innovations. Input is being collected via a link on the state parks' webpage, vtstateparks.com, and will consist of three ways to provide feedback: a community forum for open dialogue, a category-based ideas page, and a short survey. Additional information about the study and timeline is also available. Input will be collected through February 15, 2023. McKeen continues, "The parks enrich the quality of life for Vermonters and visitors, and contribute significantly to community prosperity, tourism, and the outdoor recreation economy. Because of this vital role state parks play in Vermont; we really encourage everyone to share their thoughts and ideas with us as we help to build a better park system for all." Vermont State Parks staff is working collaboratively with park and recreation professionals from BerryDunn, a national consulting firm. The study is scheduled to be completed by early spring, with a final report being issued in May 2023. ###
Mount Holly is Hiring! Administrative Officer and Planning Commission Clerk Needed
Do you have great organizational skills and have a desire to help your community?
The Mount Holly Planning Commission is looking for a strong candidate to serve as our Clerk. A successful candidate will also be recommended to the Select Board for appointment and hire as the Town's Administrative Officer.
These positions serve the community by helping to administer permits for our land-use bylaws, manage administrative tasks, and work with the Planning Commission to provide customer service to the public. Duties include attending Planning Commission meetings; performing work requiring public relations, administrative, clerical, email, word processing, and records management skills; and working with minimum supervision.
The number of hours can vary considerably from one month to the next depending on land use activity, but typically average around 10-16 hours per month. The position may be done partially remote (a portion of the work will need to be done on location at the town office). Regularly scheduled Planning Commission meetings are held every first and third Wednesday of the month at 7 pm.
