The Shrewsbury Historical Society is seeking all those nice but no longer used items for the tag sale fundraiser on Saturday.
- We are looking for antique, collectibles, household items, interesting curiosities.
Also, if you would like to bake a batch of cookies, brownies, or other for the bake sale, we welcome those donations too!
Volunteers are available to pick up your items on Friday or they can be dropped off on Friday afternoon at the Museum.

FOLA Announces Three Major October Events in Ludlow
Jim Alic, Chairman of FOLA (Friends of Ludlow Auditorium), announced that they had established October dates for three major events: a special VSO concert, a jazz band and dancing, and a special candidates' forum.
On Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 PM, the Enerjazz orchestra will return to the auditorium to provide its jazz and popular music numbers. The group, made of great musicians, will offer a number of old-timer and current musical treats that will be loved by the audience. In addition, its musical treats, the Enerjazz orchestra will provide music for dancing.
On the following day, Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 PM, FOLA has arranged with VSO, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, to present a woodwind concert. A woodwind quartet from the VSO, will present a variety of classical music pieces accentuated by the music of the woodwinds.
Opening the October auditorium presentations by FOLA will be the annual candidates' forum, on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 PM. The forum will present the candidates seeking the Windsor County Senate seats in Montpelier, along with the local candidates seeking the House seat from the area. The event will be led by a moderator who will address questions to the panel.
All of these events are free to all who wish to attend. Donations are appreciated to help FOLA continue presenting future events.

Land Conserved as Wildlife Management Area
The Mount Holly Conservation Trust (MHCT) recently purchased the 33.5-acre "Maple Crossing" tract, strategically located between the State's Awasos Wildlife Management Area and Okemo State Forest land abutting Route 100 South in Weston. MHCT was aided in its purchase of this parcel by a generous grant from The Nature Conservancy's Vermont Biodiversity Protection Fund. MHCT's President, Brigid Sullivan, said "We're especially excited by the acquisition of Maple Crossing because it forms a vital bridge between already conserved public lands, securing public access to open space for disbursed low impact wildlife-based recreation, including birding, hiking, hunting, and angling. This parcel is especially significant because it contains approximately 2,000 feet of headwater confluence of 3 tributaries to the West River, which will benefit Brook Trout in the streams on the parcel and beyond." "We are pleased to support this important conservation project," said The Nature Conservancy in Vermont State Director Eve Frankel. "In addition to protecting critical habitat and facilitating safe wildlife passage, this land provides the local community with more recreation opportunities and improves flood resilience in the area." To formally complete the tie between the Awasos Wildlife Management Area and the Okemo State Forest, MHCT plans to convey the Maple Crossing tract to the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife later this year. Maple Crossing includes forested seeps used by wildlife such as bobcat, fisher, turkey, moose and red-backed salamanders. "We are thrilled to once again be working with the Mount Holly Conservation Trust to conserve more of this critical wildlife corridor," says Will Duane, Land Acquisition Coordinator for the Department of Fish and Wildlife. "DFW and the MHCT have partnered on three conservation projects which began with the creation of Awasos WMA in 2022. Partnerships between state and local non-profit partners are fantastic examples of how collaboration can lead to meaningful success." MHCT is a nonprofit, volunteer, tax-exempt charitable organization whose mission is to preserve the beauty and character of the Mount Holly area through the conservation of land, environment, and natural resources that are valued by the community. A MidSummer Night's Salsa Invites Community to Dance in the Streets of Proctorsville PROCTORSVILLE, Vt. — On Friday, August 8, the heart of Proctorsville will come alive with Latin music, dancing, local food, and community connection during A MidSummer Night's Salsa, an outdoor celebration hosted by Planet Axis and SuperRoasted at 73 Depot Street from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For one summer evening, Depot Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into an open-air dance floor under the stars. The idea for the event grew out of the community block party held following the devastating floods of 2023. "The last time we celebrated together in the street was after the 2023 floods," said Wendy Reynolds of Planet Axis. "It was a difficult time, but we came together to celebrate what makes this community so special. That evening reminded us how important it is to gather, connect, and support one another. We don't need a tragedy to remember that we're neighbors, friends, members of the same community, and ultimately, all part of the same planet.” The inspiration for a salsa celebration came from fellow Planet Axis organizer Stefan Beaumont, who has been taking dance lessons in Rutland with Embodied Arts by Rix. "I kept thinking what a fun and unexpected way this would be to bring people together," Beaumont said. "Dance has a way of breaking down barriers. You don't need experience—you just need a willingness to have fun and connect with the people around you." The evening begins with a beginner-friendly salsa lesson from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., taught by Julia and Jano Rix of Embodied Arts by Rix. The lesson is designed for complete beginners while offering plenty of enjoyment for experienced dancers as well. Following the class, the street will become a lively social dance featuring Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue until 9:30 p.m. Designed to celebrate culture, movement, and community, A MidSummer Night's Salsa welcomes participants of all ages and experience levels. Whether attending with family, friends, or arriving solo, everyone is invited to enjoy an unforgettable summer evening filled with music, dancing, and connection. Local food vendor Moon and Stars VT will serve freshly prepared corn arepas and empanadas made with locally grown ingredients, while SuperRoasted will offer coffee, beverages, snacks, and sweet treats throughout the evening. Complimentary water and seltzer will be available for dancers, and locally crafted salsa and hot sauce will also be available for purchase. Organizers are also making sustainability part of the celebration by hosting the event as a plastic-free gathering. Guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, cups, or utensils. As a thank-you for supporting environmentally friendly practices, attendees who bring reusable items will receive a complimentary ice cream ticket. A suggested donation of $20 helps support the event, although contributions of any amount are welcome. Children 12 and under attend free, making the celebration accessible for families and the entire community.
