Proceeds to benefit The Ludlow Area Rotary Charitable Fund that services Ludlow, Cavendish, Mount Holly, and Plymouth. Admission is $15.00 for adults, $5 for under 12, and $35 for 2 adults and 2 children. It includes chili, bread, ice cream and cider. Chili entries are welcome from individuals, clubs, and businesses. Entry fee of $10.00 will include a table space and sterno. Participants are responsible for arriving between 10:30 – 10:45 the day of the cook-off. Cash prizes will be awarded in the "People's Choice" category. Awards will be given to the chili entry with the most votes in the "Judges' Choice", "Spiciest", and "Team Spirit" categories. Chili entrants are asked to provide five (5) gallons of chili for this event and we can help with servers if needed. Pictured from last year's Chili-Cookoff are many of the hundreds of visitors who received "taste checks" from the more than 25 different chili concoctions prepared by area businesses, groups, and individuals. The chilis varied from well-seasoned Tex-Mex versions to a vegetarian one with a variety of dishes in between. To enable each participant to fully enjoy the taste of each chili, cider was available to clean the palate with ice cream at the conclusion.

| | | | | ANNUAL PHINEAS GAGE WALK & TALK
There are probably few readers in our area that aren't aware of Phineas Gage, the railroad foreman, who on September 13, 1848, had a tamping rod pass through his head as a result of a blasting accident, and lived for 12 more years. Thanks to Dr. John Harlow, his treating physician, his story is remembered today.
Each year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the accident, the Cavendish Historical Society hosts a Gage Walk & Talk. This year's Walk & Talk takes place on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the CHS Museum, Route 131 in Cavendish, VT. The program begins at 2 pm. The walk includes the location of the accident, Dr. Harlow's home/surgery, and the boarding house where Gage was taken after his injury. We even have an exact replica of Gage's skull.
The site of the accident is approximately three quarters of a mile from the Museum and by the time other sites of interest are visited and we return to the museum, you will have walked close to 2 miles. Participants can stop at any time. It's recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! Not sure how we got to the end of August so quickly though. Time sure has flown this summer. Kevin has been building a new hoop house for the laying hens and the pullets (young laying hens)! It's almost ready to welcome the flock inside! And our pullets started laying this week, so in a couple of weeks or so, we'll have eggs for everyone! We have fresh chicken this week in the farm stand. Sizes are between 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 pounds. Something for everyone. Nothing like a fresh chicken on the grill or the smoker, and this will be a good weekend for that! Take note, we will NOT have fresh chickens next week. Our veggies this weekend will include corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, onions, garlic, squash, shallots, and salad greens. And don't forget to grab some fresh mozzarella for those tomatoes! Inside the farm stand fridge you'll find yogurt, cider, butter and a variety of cheese! Pasteurized milk from Larson Farm is back!! You heard that right, we now have pasteurized milk. With the holiday weekend, how about some of our ground beef patties for your weekend gathering?! Conveniently packaged in 1lb packages, with four patties per package. Try saying that fast!! We'd love for you to stop by when you're out and about this weekend. Farm stand hours are Wednesdays through Sundays from 12:00-5:00. We are located at 1966 Healdville Road in Mount Holly. We are a working farm, please be mindful of hay equipment, customer traffic, and grandkids as you drive in and out of the driveway.
