IT'S DAM INTERESTING!!!

Cold River Restoration Projects

What is going on at the road to the Shrewsbury Mountain School ???l!! Why is the dam being removed? Won't it wash away the culvert below where it crosses Northam Road? And who is paying for all this work?

Find out the answers to these questions and more on Saturday morning June 27 at 10:00am when Katie Stiles, District Manager of Rutland Natural Resources Conservation District, leads us in a discussion about the ongoing dam removal and culvert replacement. We will discuss why dams are being removed and the importance of replacing our dated and ill-fitting culverts in the name of aquatic organism passage, water quality, flood resilience, and wildlife habitat!

Rutland NRCD is now reviewing the 2013 Cold River Corridor Plan in order to identify new projects and re-prioritize potential ones. Come armed with ideas for the future and a thoughtful mind for ecological discussion. Park at the transfer station and Town Garage area where we will meet at 10:00. Wear walking shoes as some construction will have already disrupted the earth and we'll also walk down to the culvert.
