Rotary District Governor Updates LRC on Foundation

Venu Rao, District 7870 Rotary Foundation Chair, was the guest speaker at the Tuesday, Nov. 2 luncheon meeting of the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC).

He presented a detailed explanation of what the foundation was all about, its funding of local and global programs, and its sources of income.

The Rotary Foundation was founded in 1917 and during the past 100 years, the Foundation has spent $3 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.   Some of the hundreds of projects funded by the foundation include:

·       The elimination of 99.9% of polio cases
·       Rebuilding homes in Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria
·       Installing lighting in off-the-grid Navajo homes in Colorado
·       Creating a network of physicians to help refugees in Berlin
·       Developing clean water systems in Central America
·       Promoting literacy development throughout the world

These we just a few of the thousand of programs funded by the Rotary Foundation.

Venu also explained the various sources of revenue that underwrite the programs funded by the Foundation.  He noted that individual Rotarian contributions through the thousand of Rotary clubs globally were prime contributors.

The meeting also saw the formal membership of new LRC member, George Thomson.

Little Yellow House Studio presents
"Out of Control" Album Release Weekend

Andover, VT/October 26, 2021 - Little Yellow House Studio® Events presents Out of Control, a virtual album release weekend featuring singer/songwriter Eva Rainforth on Saturday and Sunday Nov 20th and 21st at 4pm EST. Hosted by Broadway veteran and Andover resident Susan Haefner, Eva will perform songs from her new album Out of Control, as well as other favorite songs from her repertoire.

Currently living in Pittsburgh PA, singer/songwriter Eva Rainforth has performed with Pittsburgh Symphony, River City Brass Band, Pittsburgh Concert Chorale, The Mendelssohn Choir, and currently sings with The Pittsburgh Opera Chorus. Regional Credits include: Papermill Playhouse, Florida Studio Theatre, New England Lyric Opera, Paper Bag Players, City Center Theatre in NYC, and Pittsburgh Playhouse, among others. Originally from Sayville, Long Island, Eva started out as a composition major at Fredonia State University and continues to write many styles of music. Eva currently teaches private voice in the conservatory at Point Park University.

"Most of the songs on Out of Control were written before the pandemic, when I was unable to create the time and space to arrange and record them." says Eva about her new album. "But, as you know, our world drastically changed in 2020, and the much needed slow down and time to focus presented itself. Within this craziness, I am grateful. It is definitely a 'Covid 19 baby.' These songs are different perspectives on where I'm coming from and where I am now, spiritually. I hope these sounds and words give viewers some enjoyment."

"Eva's music is surprising and thought provoking," says Haefner, Little Yellow House Studio founder. "When I began forming a team of Studio artists, Eva was one of the first people I thought of. Not only is she a gifted musician, her songs are humorous, gut-wrenching, and often-times delightful."

The performances are Saturday November 20th at 4pm EST and Sunday, November 21st at 4pm EST, and are "pay what you can", with a recommended ticket price of $15. Visit the Little Yellow House Studio Events Page for more information and to purchase tickets.  Upon purchase, a zoom link will be provided to join the event.  For more information about Little Yellow House Studio,

Community Health Spotlights National Diabetes Month

Diabetes Educators Teach How to Manage Diabetes

Rutland - November is National Diabetes Month and this year's focus is on prediabetes and preventing diabetes. Community Health's diabetes education program helps patients and their families manage diabetes. By making healthy lifestyle changes, it is possible to prevent type 2 diabetes and even reverse prediabetes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than one in three U.S. adults have prediabetes, but the majority of people don't know they have it! The Rutland Community Health Needs Assessment 2021, released in May 2021, notes, "our rates for cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes are all above the state rate (Vermont Department of Health, 2018)."

Diabetes is one of the four illnesses identified in the state of Vermont's 3-4-50 initiative that spotlights the overwhelming impact of chronic disease in the state. "Three behaviors (no physical activity, poor diet, tobacco use) lead to 4 diseases (cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, lung disease) and result in 50% of deaths in Vermont."
Our Certified Diabetes Educators offer self-management training and support at several convenient locations for our patients. Community Health's Diabetes Education program is certified by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES).
