We know many of you have enjoyed the beautiful  gardens at Star Lake -(which were put in 5 years ago with a grant from the Ludlow Rotary& and the help of Mt. Holy volunteers).
The two gardens are in dire need of weeding and watering….in order for those lovely perennials to survive!!!!
Several volunteers have spent hours this week, to weed out major invasive plants, and spruce up the gardens a bit.  We need some help in continuing this, and maintaining these gardens through the summer months.
If you are able, on Green up day- after you have picked up trash,  to spend 1/2 hour of your time to help with this endeavor, the entire community will benefit greatly!!
The gardens will be a wonderful place to visit during Covid 19 walks, and for distance visiting with friends.
However, we will need ongoing tending of the gardens, so if you all just remember to bring your favorite weeding tool, and a small bag each time you visit the Lake... and just spend a few minutes freshening up the gardens, it will make a HUGE difference!
Thanks in advance…..know you are all willing to support and nurture our lovely Lake gardens!
Stay safe & be well!

Vermont Home Gardener:  At Last, Transplant Time

The end of May has brought almost idea gardening weather, what a welcome change!  Although it's been a bit dry for Vermont spring, it looks like a great time to get all those ready-to-go plants into their new homes for the summer.  It's still a little early for some heat loving plants like basil, tomatoes, beans, artichokes, okra, & peppers, but almost everything else can move out.  Some adventuresome gardeners have already planted out their tomatoes and they might do well given this weather, but I'll wait just a little longer.  Transplanting into the garden is a major change for plants and taking some care to minimize the trauma will help plants get through transplant shock smoother and carry on with their growth.
