New State Law: Firearms Not Allowed at Polling Places We are looking forward to a strong turnout for our school vote. We also want to make sure voters know about a new state law. 13 V.S.A. § 4027 states "A person shall not knowingly possess a firearm at a polling place or on the walks leading to a building in which a polling place is located on an election day." This law applies everywhere in Vermont. It requires signs to be posted at the entrances to polling places, so you will see signs here when you come to vote. The law also addresses specific exceptions, including for law enforcement, and states that people may keep firearms in their vehicles when they park at polling places. Thanks, Diana |
