School budget

Voters this week rejected the Ludlow Mount Holly school budget by only two votes. I understand voters unhappiness that our school budget and taxes increased so much. Unfortunately very little of the school budget is within our control. The biggest increase was paying tuition for our high school students. Not only were there more students but the tuition charged by high schools around the area significantly increased, as provided in state law. The second big increase was for special education costs. Federal law requires districts to provide the specific services in special education students' individual education plans

Wednesday the school board will meet to decide how to proceed. We really have only one way that we can reduce the tax increase. If we eliminate two teaching positions from the budget, one from Ludlow and one from Mount Holly, then our tax increase will be 2% less. These positions were requested by our teachers and principals to enable having one teacher for each grade.

Please let us know your views as to whether we should eliminate these teaching positions so that we can make this small reduction in our taxes. Come to our meeting at the Mount Holly School 6 pm on Wednesday or send me an email. We need to know what our neighbors want us to do.

It's Friday and welcome to the start of another beautiful weekend! The weather here at the farm this week started cold, then turned warm with some rain, and we ended the week with more cold temps. And let's not forget the wind!

Our 2025 maple season has begun! We had our first boil of the year last night. A great first night with family, food and the most delicious tasting wood-fired maple syrup!

Our farm stand is open for the weekend and we invite you to stop on by. Our bread bakers are back from their short break, and we'll have freshly baked bread on Saturday. Sourdough English muffins arrived yesterday, so be sure to stop by earlier rather than later to get yours as we sell out every single week!

In season produce this weekend includes: potatoes, onions, micro greens, carrots, apples and shallots. Also, we've added jarred garlic slices from our friends at Dutchess Farm.

What's for dinner this weekend folks?! Check out our selection of beef (steaks, ground, shanks, and roasts) or chicken (whole birds), or pork (chops, sausage, ribs, ham steaks and roasts). We can help with your dinner plans!

Our CSA membership is open for enrollment. If you are a frequent shopper in our farm stand, our free choice CSA might be the right fit for you! You can use your CSA credit for anything we offer inside our farm stand, and shop whenever you want. Complete details and membership form can be found on our website.

We look forward to seeing you in the farm stand this weekend. We are open Thursdays through Sundays from 12:00-5:00. Please note, we will be closing at 4:30 this Sunday.

MAPLE OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND

Join us this year on March 22nd & 23rd for our annual maple open house weekend. Stop by for a tour of our sugar house, meet the maple crew, watch us boil (weather permitting), sample the goods, and take a snow shoe hike (weather permitting).

Complete details can be found here. Mark your calendars, we'd love to show you around!
