"Good Morning, Vietnam" Next FOLA
Movie in Robin Williams Special, Oct. 1

Continuing its special series of Robin Williams' great movies, FOLA will present "Good Morning, Vietnam" on Saturday, October 1 at 7 PM in the Heald Auditorium at Ludlow Town Hall.

Set in Saigon in 1965, during the Vietnam War, the film stars Robin Williams as a radio DJ on Armed Forces Radio Service, who proves hugely popular with the troops, but infuriates his superiors with what they call his "irreverent tendency".

Airman Second Class Adrian Cronauer (Williams) arrives in Saigon to work as a DJ for Armed Forces Radio Service.  Cronauer's show starts with his signature "Good morning, Vietnam!", and consists of reading strictly censored news and irreverent humor segments mixed with rock and roll music, which is frowned upon by his superiors.  However, a brigadier general and the other DJs quickly grow to like Cronauer and his eccentric brand of comedy.

Cronauer develops an interest in a Vietnamese girl, Trinh, whose brother prevents him from pursuing her.  Cronauer then becomes friends with the brother.

A series of events follows his presence in Saigon that endanger Cronauer's life, his adventures into the actual conflict, and his on-going disregard of the military's system of censorship and discipline.

Most of Williams' performances that portrayed Cronauer's radio broadcasts were improvisations.  The film is number 100 on the American Film Institute's "100 Years...100 Laughs" list, containing 100 movies considered the funniest in American cinema.

Everyone is invited to attend the film.  There is no entry fee; donations are appreciated.  For information, (802) 855-8883 or https://fola.us.
