| | | | | FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY PHOTO CALENDAR CONTEST INFORMATION AND APPLICATION The Photo Calendar contest is a new event sponsored by the Friends of the Fletcher Memorial Library. The Friends are developing a 2027 Calendar which will feature photos of Ludlow and be sold in the Fall of 2026. All proceeds will be used to support the library. We are looking for photos that showcase some aspects of Ludlow: our beautiful mountains, lakes, flowers, wildlife, and quaint village are all ideas that come to mind. Ludlow is beautiful in all four seasons! The competition is open to all amateur photographers. We welcome photos from our residents as well as neighboring towns, second homeowners and visitors who love our town as much as we do! An independent panel of judges will pre-screen all submitted photos to narrow them down to 24 semi-finalist photos. The 24 semi-finalist photos will be voted on by the public during the week of August 10-15. Photos will be displayed in Fletcher Memorial Library, and ballots can be obtained from the front desk. Rules of the contest: - All submissions must depict some aspect of Ludlow. The photo is required to be an 8X10 nonglossy photo using landscape orientation.
- It should be unframed and unmounted.
- Only 1 photo is accepted per photographer.
- Photos can be dropped off at Fletcher Memorial Library
- or mailed to: Fletcher Memorial Library at 88 Main St. Ludlow, VT 05149.

| | | | | COME JOIN US AT THE SHREWSBURY LIBRARY FRIDAY NIGHT FOR LIVING WITH BEARS! 7:00 pm
We are excited to view a mother bear and her cubs scampering across the road but less enthused when meeting a huge one exiting our garage with a trail of upturned garbage cans and refuse behind it – or worse, finding your car windows bashed in from where a bear tried to access garbage bags inside that had been destined for the dump. All of the above occurred in this writer's neighborhood recently! Tom Gieder, Wildlife Specialist with the USDA Wildlife Services, will lead a presentation and discussion about Vermont's black bears and what individuals and communities can do to better share our properties with these curious and powerful animals. He will discuss bear biology, ecology, the factors that bring bears too close to our homes, and what we can do to prevent future conflicts with bears. Tom will be presenting on identifying bear attractants, securing attractants, and keeping bears wild. He will also discuss USDA Wildlife Services' new role in combating human wildlife conflicts and other services he provides to the public Tom Gieder has been a Wildlife Specialist with USDA Wildlife Services since 2017. He holds a B.S degree from Penn State University in Wildlife and Fishery Science. Prior to working for Wildlife Services, he worked for 12 years managing and researching various wildlife across the United States, from deer, turkeys, shorebirds, fox, bear, and many others. He currently works with human wildlife conflict in Vermont, mostly concentrated on bear conflicts.
