Exciting Changes Coming to Pierce's
The Board at Pierce's Store is excited to announce some upcoming changes at the store. Our manager, Bob Knudsen, has indicated his desire to transition away from his management role at Pierce's due to exciting changes in his family, including a new baby and a new business in Cuttingsville. Bob will remain active in the store until we recruit a new manager. We are so grateful to him for his willingness to stay on as a member of the Pierce's team until the right person can be found to fill the manager's position. We hope to have someone in place by late winter/early spring. If you are interested or know someone who would be a good fit, please reach out to the Board!

In other news, Pierce's will be doing a gradual reboot of the kitchen in an effort to provide the community with fresh prepared foods on a daily basis. Currently, we have added breakfast sandwiches on Saturday mornings, and occasional lunch sandwiches throughout the week. We are looking for volunteers from the community to sign up to make soups for the store (Pierce's will pay for all ingredients, you donate your time and cooking skills!), and we will be expanding in-house cookie baking. We hope to be able to recruit a part time chef to offer easy takeout dinners in the near future.

As the holiday season approaches, we also will be beefing up our selection of gifts from local artisans. Come check out these beautiful pieces made by your neighbors, and keep your money in the community!

Note on the Long Range Planning Meeting - the Board has decided to postpone this important process until new management is hired. Please continue to support Shrewsbury's historic small town store. Shop at Pierce's!!

Hello friends and neighbors!

You might or might not be familiar with Green Mountain Neighbors, the new 5001(c)(3) organization that will help us remain in our community and our homes longer than we might otherwise stay. Several members of the Mount Holly, Shrewsbury, and Wallingford communities have worked throughout this year to form, generate interest in, and build the structure around the organization that we hope will begin offering services to members early in 2024.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 pm, we've invited folks from NeighborWorks of Rutland County to come talk with us specifically about home safety, and more generally about their programs. It will be a relatively short program with time for lots of questions. Come early for a snack if you want, too.

In addition, members of the board will talk about the status of Green Mountain Neighbors, what we're doing now and what we expect to be doing early in 2024 when it looks like we will be able to start offering some services. More will come as time passes.

See the poster attached to this message for complete details of the event on the 4th. This event is open to all -- spouses/partners/SOs, neighbors -- whoever you think might benefit from it.

And, as it says on the poster, carpooling is encouraged! If you want to come but do not have a ride please let me know and I'll see if I can arrange transportation for you.

I am sitting on the porch as I write this message. It would be really nice if we have this kind of weather a week from now, but I have a feeling it's a short-term treat.

Be well and let me know if you have any questions.
