Great News – more than 130 people have contributed to our project by identifying more than 800 species of plants and animals in Mount Holly!  Over 2,200 observations have been reported to the Mount Holly Biodiversity project webpage and new reports are coming in every day.  By using the iNaturalist app on our smartphones we have compiled a major data base of what lives in our community and how rich our environment is.

Additionally, we have identified 21 threatened species in Mount Holly and over 90 non-native species.  Many are invasive plants that need to be managed to prevent further damage to our environment.   The Project webpage (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/mount-holly-biodiversity) can help you see if you have any of these introduced species (mostly plants) on your property and the map shows where in town they have already been found.

If you haven't had a chance to join the project and share your observations yet, now is a great time to get outside and use the iNaturalist app to learn the names of those wildflowers, birds, butterflies, or trees around your home and to contribute to an important community project.  The app is Free for Android or iPhones and easy to download and learn to use.  There is a built in tutorial or you can call Jim (259-2311) for help getting started.

The Mount Holly Biodiversity Project is sponsored by the Mount Holly Conservation Trust and the Mount Holly Conservation Commission.
