Let's Talk about the Sweet Stuff!

Pure Vermont maple syrup is just about the sweetest thing on earth, wouldn't you agree?! Carrying on the family tradition, maple season is when we all gather at the sugar house and create the good stuff. Sugaring season begins in early spring, but we enjoy the rewards of the season all year long. Let us quickly introduce our family of sugar makers (in age order so there will be no arguing among the crew)!

Kevin & Patti: Husband and wife and owners of Plew Farm. Kevin is the brains of our operation and has his hands in every aspect of the process. Tapping trees, splitting wood, stacking wood, boiling, packaging, repairs, maintenance and SO much more. Patti provides the sugar house meals, helps with the wood stacking, canning, packaging and most of all the sales and marketing.

Seth: Oldest son Seth is our right hand man, especially when it comes to boiling. Firing the arch (we boil over a wood fire), helping with the wood, are just a few of the tasks he's involved in. And his girlfriend Jen makes THE best waffles around. So delicious in the sugar house smothered with fresh maple syrup!

Frank: Son Frank lives in Washington DC., and although he's not able to get away from work during our sugaring season, he is most helpful in the sales department! Every year in October, we have a farm open house, and Frank and girlfriend Alex come up for the weekend. He is a natural when it comes to sales!

Jared: Jared, wife Kristen, and the kids (Jackson, Dominic & Kenna). Family life is a bit busy for these folks, but sure enough, when there is sap to boil, they are there! Jared lends a hand with the firing of the arch, stacking the wood and whatever else needs to be done. Kristen has her hands full with the kids, but still shows up with snacks and meals. Jack & Dom can usually be found in the wood pile, getting the wood ready for their uncles. Kenna's main responsibility this past year was to just be her cute little self!

Sean: Son Sean lives in Los Angeles! His background in graphic design has been a tremendous help, and he recently designed our new glass bottles (details coming soon). We send him our products, and he creates the product photos you see on our website. We're hoping to convince Sean and his girlfriend Ruby to head back east for a visit.

Jacob: Jacob has his hands in a bit of everything as well. From firing the arch, splitting wood, working the sap lines, and our in-house photographer! Jacob gets out of work later than the others, so we rely on him for '2nd shift' if we're up against a late night.

So there you have it. Our family of sugar makers. We wouldn't be where we are without the help of all of these hands. I wish I could say I had a picture of all of us in the sugar house, but it's been quite awhile since we were all together. Here's one that was taken about 5 years ago.. If we get together anytime soon, we'll be sure to post an updated photo.

Stop on by our farm stand or visit our website and check out our maple selection. We've got maple syrup, maple cream, and maple almonds. We don't just make maple syrup in the sugar house, we make memories.

FRESH CHICKEN

Wow is all we can say. We sold out of our first batch of chicken last Saturday. And we've only got a handful left from this weeks batch.

Rest assured, we do process chickens on a weekly basis and will be doing so from now through the end of September.
