Maple! Meat! and More!

MAPLE:  It's sugaring season here at Plew Farm and we've been in the sugar house this week making the best tasting, wood fired maple syrup!  And that means that we've got our farm stand maple shelves fully stocked with all things maple.  And all grades available.  Can't make it to our farm stand?  No problem, we've got our website fully stocked as well!
MEAT:  We've got beef, pork, and chicken at the farm stand.  Pork chops were the top seller last week!  With our smoked ham hocks following a close second.  Whatever you're looking for, I'm sure we can help you out!
MORE:  Fresh bread will be arriving on Saturday - yay!!  And fresh greens have returned from our friends at Evening Song Farm.  Produce includes:  apples, garlic, onions, potatoes, carrots and greens.  Cheese is in full supply as is our milk and yogurt section.  And gifts folks - we've got 'em!  Pictured below is one of the handcrafted lamps we've got on display and for sale at the farm stand.  Stop on in and check 'em out.
Take a minute to click on the sugar house picture below.  Jackson, our 8 year old grandson, walked to the top of the hill to snap this photo.  Complete with steam, sparks and his view of one of his favorite places on earth!

We hope to see you at our maple open house next weekend, Saturday & Sunday the 26th & 27th!  Tour the sugar house, have some samples, and meet the crew.  We look forward to seeing you!

Our farm stand is located at 1966 Healdville Road in Mount Holly.  We are open Tuesdays through Sundays from 12:00 - 5:00.  Closed on Mondays!

YOU ARE INVITED TO VISIT OUR SUGAR HOUSE NEXT WEEKEND!

This is a picture of my grandfather, Maurice Hawkins.  I grew up having Grandpa's syrup on our table.  I have many found memories of visiting his sugar house and waiting for the go ahead to grab a sample.  And I was a bit spoiled I believe, 'cause my sample cup was a bit bigger than most!
Not only was delicious wood fired maple syrup made in his sugar house, but some dang good memories as well.  We enjoy carrying on Grandpa's tradition in our sugar house and invite you to stop in next weekend (26th & 27th) for our open house.  Take a tour, grab a sample and meet our sugarin' crew.  We can't wait to see you!

FUNDING TO INSTALL OR REPLACE WATER OR WASTEWATER SYSTEMS
Background
During the pandemic, some low-income Vermont homeowners saw their income disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and had their on-site water (such as wells) or wastewater systems (such as septic tanks and leach fields) fail. Many of these residents are not able to pay for system replacement or repairs, find it challenging to navigate the regulatory landscape necessary to construct a replacement system, have trouble accessing on-site water and wastewater professionals, or have limited access to information about the true costs of on-site water and wastewater solutions, which in addition to capital costs, often include "hidden" operation and maintenance costs.
ARPA Funding Overview
The Governor proposed $3 million in ARPA funding to provide safe and reliable drinking water sources and wastewater disposal systems for Vermonters disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The General Assembly provided an initial $1 million to support this work. Additional funding is anticipated in future fiscal years. This funding will ensure residents have access to safe, reliable drinking water and adequate wastewater disposal.
This program will provide financial assistance to residential property owners, including owner-occupied multi-family properties with up to four units. The Agency of Natural Resources will provide ARPA funding to owner/applicant-occupied single and multi-unit residential properties that have failing or inadequate on-site water and/or wastewater systems.
Eligibility
The eligibility requirements for this funding source for FY22 are as follows:
  • A failed or inadequate drinking water or wastewater system
  • Residential property owners who own and reside on the property
  • Single units or owner-occupied multi-family homes, up to four units
  • Low to moderate income households
    • Tier 1 = Households Earning Less than $65,000 per Year
    • Tier 2 = Households Earning Between $65,000 and 200% MHI (about $120,000) per Year
Application Process, Timelines, and Deadlines:
As of Friday, March 4, 2022, the application for the Healthy Homes On-Site funding is open. Homeowners can now apply to receive funding to repair or replace a failed or inadequate on-site water or wastewater system. Applications for the first round of funding are open through April 15, 2022. Starting April 16, 2022, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and funding will be provided as available. You can learn more about the application process in this infographic.
You can apply here - application | (https://forms.office.com/g/UPQ7DN9prR).
Instructions for the applications are available here - application instructions | (https://bit.ly/3hmXUIP)
You will be required to provide a Permit Navigator Result as part of your application. The Agency of Natural Resources' Permit Navigator is a free service that only offers guidance on what environmental permits your project might need, it does not issue permits or start the permit application process. To learn more about the Permit Navigator, please visit here - Permit Navigator | (dec.vermont.gov/permitnavigator).
We also invite you to join State of Vermont Accessible Assistance Specialists on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 12:00-1:00 pm for a webinar on Microsoft Teams | (https://bit.ly/3Hm57mL) or Call In/Audio Only at 802-828-7667, Phone Conference ID: 361 521 6# to learn more about the Healthy Homes Initiative On-Site program, the application, and award process.
You can reach out to Rosalie Sharp, a State of Vermont Accessible Assistance Specialist, by email or phone at rosalie.sharp@vermont.gov and (802) 461-7433, if you have questions or problems with the application.
Equity Considerations
ARPA funds will help disadvantaged communities address the public health and economic crises caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and help protect them from future crises.
Many people with failed on-site water or wastewater systems know that they have an expensive problem and can feel powerless. Providing these funds to individuals to cover design and construction and by having a sliding scale for increased assistance as household income decreases, property owners are empowered to solve the situation. We also propose to expand eligibilities and audiences by the creation of a beneficiary program. Multilingual outreach will specifically target underserved and minority applicants to address equity considerations and environmental justice challenges.
