Ludlow Rotary Celebrates Rotary Foundation The Rotary Foundation (RF), part of Rotary International, is being celebrated this month by all Rotary Clubs, including the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC). Since it was founded over a century ago, the RF has spent over $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects throughout the world. Some of these projects included: · Intensive efforts to eliminate Polio · Working to provide clean drinking water to countries in need · Campaigning against bullying of children In these programs, the RF found that for less than a dollar a child could be protected from polio, $50 would help provide clean water to prevent waterborne illness, and $500 would launch an antibullying campaign. The primary purpose of RF is to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty. LRC President, Kevin Barnes, indicated that the RF had provided financial support for the club's projects. Some of this support was for the Malayaka orphanage in Africa and many of LRC's local projects. Barnes added that the foundation had given $340,848 to the club's district to support local relief efforts during the Covid pandemic. Funding for the RF is totally voluntary. Each LRC member annually contributes $100 a year to the foundation. "It's an annual donation that every Rotarian believes is important to our mission," commented Brigid Sullivan, LRC Foundation chairperson. "We all have a strong belief that the purpose of the foundation is one that is basic to our mission."
