A team of four Mount Holly Residents are currently working with the Rutland Regional Planning Commission to create a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). This plan is required by the State of Vermont for all communities. Its purpose is to assist the Town to understand the natural hazards facing the community, rank them according to level of risk, and develop strategies to mitigate those hazards. The first five sections of the plan; the Introduction, Community Profile, Hazard Identification, and Risk Assessment, will be ready for public review and comment on September 2, 2020 for a 14 day period. The draft plan will be posted to the town website at http://www.mounthollyvt.org/announcements-bulletin-board/ and at the Town Office. The remaining sections address analysis of specific hazards and development of mitigation strategies and will be created later in September. A second public review and comment period will be provided once the plan is complete. Public review and comment are critical to the development of the plan. Your past experiences in Mount Holly and your perspective on natural disasters and hazards will be important to this plan. We request your assistance and input. A brief overview of the draft plan will be presented at the September 8th regular Select Board meeting. This meeting will be held remotely via Zoom, at 6:30 pm. For the meeting link and/or call-in telephone number please visit  http://www.mounthollyvt.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Mount-Holly-Draft-LHMP-09-08-20.pdf .  Time for public comments will be provided after the overview. Comments can also be communicated in writing to Jeff Chase at jeff@chasevermont.com or dropped off at the Town Office or mailed to Jeff Chase, PO Box 248, Mount Holly, VT.

Vermont Home Gardener - Save Your Seeds

Harvesting veggies, herbs, and flowers is the best part of gardening but don't overlook another crop you might want to gather… seeds for next year.  If you've grown peas, beans, tomatoes, or lettuce these are the easiest to save and assure you will have good seeds for next year.  There are many advantages to saving your own seeds and it's very satisfying to see your plants through from generation to generation.  Kind of like how we enjoy grandchildren!  It's also time to harvest some herbs like basil and dill seeds, plant some more salad greens (but not bulbs or garlic yet), and keep on weeding.

Good Day Mt. Holly Community!
First, we would like to THANK YOU for your generous support of our efforts to gather supplies for Mount Holly students.  It was very successful!  The cash donations allowed us to purchase 100 backpacks for mobile learning labs.

This Saturday, we are holding a clothing drive on the Belmont Green from 9 a.m., until 1:30 p.m.  Similar to the supply drive, a tag is removed from the t-shirt, the item is purchased and returned to the green the following Saturday.

Many of you have asked about used children's clothing, yes, we are accepting gently used clothing items. T-shirts, sweatshirts, leggings, jogging pants, etc. sizes 4 T through men and women's size large for the older students are all welcome.  Again, THANK YOU to all who have already donated.  Also, in preparation for colder months, we are looking for coats and waterproof gloves.

FOOD SHELF:  Glenn and Laura Davis, and Jo Bania are available on Sat. during the hours of the Farmer's Market, 9- 2 if you need to access the food shelf.  As stated in the September Chit Chat, if you need a delivery you can call Jo at 259-3661, or call and she will meet you there.  It is located in the basement of the church.  We are running low on boxes so if you have sturdy bags to bring, that would be helpful.

What a WONDERFUL community we live in!  Again, THANK YOU for your ongoing support.

If you have questions, you can call Jo or email Mthollycommunitycares@gmail.com
