Bark, Buds & Branches: Learn to identify trees in winter

Monday, February 22,  12:00pm – 1:00pm

Many of us can identify trees like maple and oaks by their leaf shape but once those leaves are on the ground tree identification can be a little tricky. How do you identify a tree in stick season? Let us help you! Join VLT foresters to learn what trees they love the most and what tips and tricks they use to identify them this time of year. We will go over leafless identification for the most common trees you are likely to encounter in the woods and a few less common ones. We will cover trees found in all corners of the state. Happenings Around the Farm
One thing for sure is that SNOW is happening here at the farm!  We received more this week, along with some sleet and ice.  Snowbanks are growing as we speak!
Our winter pigs left the farm earlier this month which means we will have bacon, ribs, and more back in stock in a few weeks!  And we expect our summer pigs to arrive at the farm within the next couple of weeks.
We've had 9 calves born so far this year, and expect 5 more within the next month or so.  They are all doing quite nicely and are staying warm and dry inside the big red barn.
Our laying hens haven't skipped a beat all winter!  They continue to produce the best farm fresh eggs around.

Our farm stand is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 12-5 (closed on Mondays), and continues to stay busy.  We ask that you wear your mask when shopping inside our farm stand and one person and/or family inside at a time.  Stop on by for some delicious meats, eggs, maple products, honey, milk, yogurt, cheese, pasta, gelato, produce, vinegar, and .... as of this weekend, we are expecting another great product to add to our selection of goodies.  Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages for more details!!!

If you are quarantining or limiting your interactions with folks and need some goodies from our farm stand, drop us an email and we'll get your order ready for contactless curbside pick up.

Recipe of the week

Here's one of our meals we enjoy using leftover steak.  Not that I usually have much left over, but often times we do.  Sauteed steak with peppers and onions, served over cheese fries and topped with an egg!  Add some of Alchemy Gardens sauerkraut and voila, dinner is ready.

And most of these ingredients can be found at the farm stand:  steak, onions, cheese, eggs, & sauerkraut.
