FOLA Releases Schedule for Coming Season

At its recent meeting, FOLA (Friends of Ludlow Auditorium) approved an event schedule for the coming 2022 season which will consist of 14 movies, 2 public forums, and a Metropolitan Opera.

Among the movies scheduled for 2022 are a documentary on the Apollo 11 flight to the moon, a three-film series of comedian/actor Robin Williams' great films, a silent movie of Director Alfred Hitchcock's "The Lodger" featuring Jeff Rapsis' musical background, and a Harry Potter film for the Christmas season.

Since 2022 is an election year, FOLA will sponsor two public forums dealing with the primary election, which should be interesting given the open U.S. Senate and House seats, plus a general election candidate forum.

As a first for FOLA and the Ludlow area, plans have been made to show a comic opera, "The Merry Widow", featuring the great soprano, Renee Fleming.  As FOLA Chairperson, Ralph Pace, noted:  "This is an opera you'll leave whistling some of its great tunes or simply wonder, why haven't I seen this before".

According to Program Director Scott Stearns other events may be added during the season.

All of these events will continue to be free and open to everyone.  FOLA will continue to observe the Ludlow Town policies concerning Covid-19.  Currently that policy calls for masks required for unvaccinated persons and recommended for all others when attending events in the Heald Auditorium of Ludlow Town Hall.

PROCTORSVILLE CHRISTMAS GHOST WALK:

In 2020,  the Cavendish Historical Society (CHS) had to cancel their planned ghost walk. In its place, was "A Christmas Eve Ghost Story" featuring both the Golden Stage Inn and its various ghosts as well as some of the local spirits. The story is available on-line at the CHS blog. https://cavendishhistoricalsocietynews.blogspot.com/2020/12/a-cavendish-christmas-ghost-story-2020.html

On Dec. 12 (Sunday), the 2021 Proctorsville Christmas Ghost Walk begins in front of the Proctorsville War Memorial on Route 131 (close to the intersection of 131 and Depot St) at 7PM. The tour proceeds down Depot St., with information about what places are thought to be haunted. It ends at the Golden Stage Inn, where there will be a bonfire. What better place, and way, to learn about one of the most haunted inns in New England.
The tour is free and open to the public, but donations are appreciated. This is an easy walk.  Please dress according to the weather and bring a flashlight. FMI: 802-226-7807 or margocaulfield@icloud.com

It is so hard to believe that the end of the year is fast approaching. We are grateful that this year was a big step forward over last year, as we returned to some of our beloved events…Music on the Green, The Garden Tour, Mount Holly Day, and Cider Days.  We are all hoping that 2022 will be even better and we'll be back with all the events that grace the MHCA calendar!

We will be celebrating the holidays this year with another Tree lighting on the Green in the Belmont crossroads!  Co-sponsored with the PTSA of Mount Holly Elementary School, this event will take place on December 17th at 5:00 pm.  Although we will once again have to forego the annual skit in the library, we are pleased to announce that Santa has agreed to come visit us on the Green at the tree lighting from 5:30-6:30 on our local Fire truck!!!  We are hoping that many of our young friends throughout Mount Holly will join us for this kick off to the holiday season, see Santa and receive a gift!  As an added treat, the PTSA has been soliciting Mount Holly residents to "Light Up the Night" by decorating their houses for the season.  Folks from the PTSA will be distributing maps, so everyone can take a self-guided tour of all the homes that participated.  Be sure to grab a map and take a tour of all the "light shows" throughout the town!

New Year's Eve at Star Lake is back!!  On Friday, December 31st starting at 8:00pm with a bonfire and skating if the lake is frozen then 9:00 pm the Mount Holly Snow Flyers will again put on their incredibly spectacular fireworks show.  For those of you who have never attended, don't think that this is just a small-town gig…it's not!!  This is a show that is worth attending.  Although the MHCA will not be serving beverages as we have in the past, we will be setting the stage for the fireworks display by lighting up the beach in spectacular fashion!  Be sure to bring a thermos of mulled wine or hot cocoa to enjoy while you watch these amazing fireworks.
