Farm Life

Hard to believe the end of October is right around the corner!  And other than the drenching rain, the weather is still not too shabby!  A bit cool in the mornings and evenings, with a wee bit of sunshine in between.

Let's talk about:

CHICKEN.  We made sure to fill our freezers back in the summer to get us through the winter months!  So yay!  Stop on by for a delicious roasting chicken.

BREAD.  The bread bakers are taking the weekend off - say what?!  Not to worry though, we've got a supply of their bread in our freezers.  Simply thaw and enjoy.

TURKEYS. We have sold out of our Thanksgiving turkeys.

MONDAYS.  Just a reminder we are closed on Mondays.  Open Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00-6:00.

CATTLE.  Our cattle are still out grazing our pastures.  You may see them when driving by, as we move them daily into a new pasture.

PASTA.  We have our fridge stocked with some amazing fresh pasta, ravioli and pasta sheets!  Dinner just got easier!  Sauce and pesto available too!

MAPLE.  Our bourbon barrel aged maple syrup has been the hot seller this week!  I'm thinking gift giving...this syrup is so delicious over a bowl of good vanilla ice cream!  Available in our farm stand, or on our website!

SOCIAL MEDIA.  If you aren't following us on Instagram and/or Facebook ... well, what can I say?!  Follow along for updates, pictures and all things Plew Farm.

FARM STAND.  We are open this weekend (12:00-6:00) and look forward to seeing you!  Step inside and take a look at what we have to offer.  Located at 1966 Healdville Road in Mount Holly.

Please be cautious and drive accordingly when driving in and out of our driveway.  Be on the lookout for farm equipment, dogs, other customers, and  grandchildren!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK...

I love experimenting with new recipes, and this one did not disappoint.  Start by simmering a smoked ham hock, onions, seasonsings and bay leaf.  Simmer for a couple of hours or so.  Recipe continues in next block -->>

ROAST HAM HOCK & POTATOES

When done simmering, place in pan surrounded by cut up potatoes.  Sprinkle all with salt, pepper, thyme, paprika and garlic.  Mix a sauce of 1/4 cup each maple syrup, mustard, and mayo.  Pour on top of all!  Bake at 400 for 30-40 minutes.  SO GOOD!

Rotary Governor Plans Changes for Future Growth

Ludlow Rotary Club heard about the plans for the future of the southern VT and NH Rotary district at lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Hosted by Ludlow Rotary President Art Randolph, District Governor John Bob Siemienowicz addressed the club accompanied by several other Rotary district officers.

John Bob spoke about the importance of change as a way for Rotary to stay relevant in their efforts to be an important vehicle of change in the world.  The motto of Rotary International this year is Serve to Change Lives.  John Bob emphasized the importance of service internationally, nationally and locally.

John Bob congratulated the Ludlow Rotary Club on the number of new members it has recruited in the past couple of years, the fundraisers it has held and the support it has offered to Rotary International's high priority campaign to eradicate polio in the world.

Emphasis on service to others is embodied in the work of the Ludlow Club, he said.  He also recognized the major contribution of the Ludlow Club, and its incoming president Jim Rumrill, in the area of the international Youth Exchange program which focuses on improving global relations through this important program.

He encouraged those in attendance to look for ways to be more inclusive in recruiting and retaining new members.  He encouraged the club to look at all aspects of the organization to make membership more attractive to prospective members and to work to retain its new members.  Consider the cost of being a member, as well as welcoming non-traditional members such as younger members of the community, gay and lesbian residents, and those who have been excluded for reasons of ethnic or racial heritage.

As a thank you for his service to Rotary, President Art  presented the District Governor with a gift basket of Vermont foods from Green Mountain Sugar House.

District Governor John Bob Siemienowicz is pictured above as he calls for some basic changes to foster growth of Rotary International and its millions pof members.
