If you live in Ludlow, Mt. Holly, Belmont, Cavendish, Proctorsville or Plymouth we are your community's resource for food and more.   The food shelf provides individuals and families with an abundance of fresh produce, vegetables, meat, bread, frozen foods and more, and can be used twice a month. Signup is quick and easy-all can be done confidentially over the phone. Pickup is offered safely outside.  Several food programs are available through BRGNS food shelf. As a USDA Program provider, folks can pick up full bags of food including fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs, twice a month. A network member of the Vermont Food Bank, the food shelf participates in the federal nutrition program entitled "Commodities Supplemental Food Program" that offers free monthly boxes of food filled with canned fruits and vegetables, juice, cereal, pasta, cheese, shelf-stable milk and canned meats. A relatively new food program, "Everyone Eats" is now being offered. Local restaurants prepare meals to go that are handed out from the food shelf every Wednesday from 10 AM – noon. This program has been a huge success and continues to grow. It is available for all of our community members (Ludlow, Mt. Holly, Belmont, Cavendish, Proctorsville and Plymouth).  And, as always, financial assistance is available through Black River Good Neighbor Services. Help with rent, utilities, and heating and disaster relief assistance are all included.  Your community supports these services. Rutland -- Bradley Berryhill, MD, Community Health's Chief Medical Officer, has been awarded the 2021 Outstanding Clinician Award from the Bi-State Primary Care Association for his tireless dedication to patients, staff and colleagues. "Dr. Berryhill is a true warrior on the front lines and a Samaritan for our community," said Community Health CEO Don Reuther. "No words could be more accurate. Thank you, Brad, and congratulations." Dr. Berryhill led Community Health's COVID-19 efforts with compassion and skill, setting a course for Vermont's largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) to remain open and accessible to patients throughout the pandemic. In addition to overseeing clinical operations for the health network's seven practice facilities, Dr. Berryhill serves as the medical director for three skilled nursing facilities and maintains a primary care practice. Dr. Berryhill joined the health care network in 2004 as medical director. A 1986 graduate of State University of New York Upstate, he completed his residency at St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center in Syracuse and received a master's degree in health care policy and administration from Harvard University in 2006.   Dr. Berryhill and other honorees for the Bi-State Primary Care Association awards were nominated by a jury of their peers for their "exceptional leadership and significant contribution to improving access to health care and food resources during the long first year of the COVID-19 pandemic."   A live virtual awards ceremony will be streamed on Bi-State's website on May 19, 2021.    All Community Health locations are open and accepting patients. Mount Holly Newsflash - Friday, March 26, 2021 - Morning edition The weather today in Mount Holly - Rain showers before 7am, then showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy. High near 63, with temperatures falling to around 53 in the afternoon. South wind 5 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. We are in the midst of sugaring season and have spent many afternoons and evenings in the sugar house this week making delicious wood-fired maple syrup.  You can get your supply of our fresh wood-fired maple syrup at our farm stand or by shopping our website! And just like that, our first batch of meat chicks arrived at the farm this week!  They will stay inside the barn under their brooder until they are old enough to go outside...and when the pastures are ready to accept them!  The pigs are doing what they do naturally -- growing!  And we are waiting on one more calf to arrive, which we think might happen this weekend.  We'll post a picture when it does! The farm stand remains busy and we'll be open all weekend for your shopping convenience.  We've got chicken, pork, beef, eggs, maple, honey, produce, dairy, pizza, gelato, and so much more.  It's best to stop on by and take a look for yourself! Please note, we will not be receiving a bread delivery this weekend, however, we do have a supply of 3 Bears Bakery bread in our freezer.  Just defrost the loaves on your counter. I'm always looking for new recipes, and when I stumbled upon this one, I knew I had to give it a try.
