Learners choose their course path: Track 1 to become a certified Extension Master Gardener volunteer, attending live Thursday evening Zoom sessions (Jan. 29–May 14). The state Traffic Engineer has completed their study and at this time has declined to recommend any change to the speed limit. However, this is only a preliminary recommendation and the request still has to proceed before the full VT Traffic Committee. Based on a review of prior VT Committee minutes, it appears that the Committee takes local input based on actual lived experience very seriously. To that end, I would encourage any impacted or concerned resident of Mount Holly to attend the Committee meeting on December 10 at 1:30 pm. While in person attendance at the Committee's office in Berlin may be impractical, there will be a dial-in/remote option. The dial in/remote details will be available approximately 48 hours before the meeting (that is, sometime around December 8). For those who wish to attend, I'll arrange a zoom call on December 9 to go over what to expect at the meeting and to talk about how best to present any additional comments or evidence to the Committee. If you would like to be kept in the loop as the meeting approaches, please text or email either me or Leah with your email address and best contact info and we will let you know the details for both the pre-meeting on December 9 and the actual VT Traffic Committee meeting on December 10. You can also contact anyone on the Select Board and they will pass on the information to help coordinate. A link to the VT Traffic Committee is below. Okemo Valley Holiday Train Celebrates Generosity & The Season of Giving
Chester, VT – December 2025 The Okemo Valley Holiday Train is once again bringing joy, connection, and holiday magic to the community, Okemo Valley and beyond - special thanks to the dedication of nearly fifty volunteers and the generosity of nine Reindeer Sponsors. Together, they are making this cherished tradition a beacon of kindness during the Season of Giving.
From festive decorations to warm smiles, volunteers are the heart of the Holiday Train. Their commitment to serving others creates unforgettable experiences for riders and ensures that every journey is filled with cheer. This year, their efforts are especially meaningful as the train hosts "Secret Santa" rides, offering families and individuals in need a chance to celebrate the holidays with wonder and delight.
The Reindeer Sponsors—Migras Talc, Mary W. Davis, Down to the Roots, Diamond Point Wealth Partners, Vermont Country Store, Heritage Family Credit Union, HB Energy Solutions, Okemo Mountain Resort, and Green Mountain Sign & Graphics—underwrote the Secret Santa train rides, ensuring that the magic of the season reaches those who need it most. Special Announcement Camp Cody Opportunity at Mount Holly Festival of Lights The Mount Holly Community Historical Museum has been offered three gift cards by Camp Cody in Freedom, New Hampshire. Each is in the amount of $2500, applicable to a camper (boy or girl, ages 7-15) to attend either Session 1 (June 21 – July 4) or Session 4 (August 2 – August 15) of the 2026 camp season. These cards will be part of our Festival of Lights live auction this Saturday at Odd Fellows Hall (doors open 5 pm, sale begins 5:30 pm), with a minimum bid of $300 for each. The cost of a camp session is $5500. Families with a gift card will be responsible for $3000 of this cost, with $750 due when their camper registers.
