Green Mountain Neighbors put most of its energy during 2024 into getting members and volunteers, and promoting services such as providing transportation, and assisting in some light household chores. In 2025, we are going to be hosting various types of events. For its first event this year, Green Mountain Neighbors is pleased to sponsor "Antarctica comes to Vermont" presented by Sally Deinzer, daughter of John Dyer, the chief radio engineer on Admiral Richard Byrd's Second Expedition (1934-1935) to Antarctica. This event will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. (inclement weather date Sunday February 9th) in the meeting room on the upper level of the Wallingford Town Hall. Parking is available along the street and at the school across the street. The meeting room is handicapped accessible. During this expedition, Admiral Byrd stayed by himself for an extended period "Alone" which happens to be the title of the book by Admiral Byrd about his adventure. There will be video from clips (transferred from 8 mm film) made by John Dyer during the expedition, and time for questions. Admission is free for members and volunteers with GMN while others will be charged $5.00. Light refreshments will be available. A few years ago The Mt. Holly Fire Dept sold as a fundraiser a Ash a Way that I believe Pet Taggett made. Now I know those who bought it are not all burning wood and no longer need it, I'd like to buy it! Call Jim @ 259/2006 if you want to part with it. don't let it keep collecting dust.
| | | | | Star Lake Discussion Tuesday at 6 in Town Office and Zoom
All are invited to join a meeting of the Conservation Commission with the Recreation Committee Tuesday at 6 in the town office and by Zoom. Much of the discussion will focus on how to improve opportunities for recreation in Star Lake. We have some ideas, are considering applying for a grant to add a playground and Bocce court to the town park and we have a better understanding of what clearing of weeds will be permitted by the State. We welcome your ideas.

What a cold and snowy winter we're having, a perfect set up for outdoor activities. Sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, skating, walks, and snowmobiling! Board of Trustees, Expeditionary School at Black River ℅ Marissa Selleck, Secretary of the Board mselleck@esblackriver.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 01/31/2025 Successful Giving Tuesday-End of Year Campaign 2024 for Local Education Ludlow, VT: Thank you to everyone for supporting 2024's Giving Tuesday-End of Year Campaign for the Expeditionary School at Black River! ESBR is delighted to announce that the Matching Funds Challenge goal of $10K ($10,400 to be exact) was achieved, raising $22,675 to date for this annual fundraiser. Additional donations and pledges are still gratefully being received, and it would be a disservice not to express our gratitude as well for the additional $15K outside of this fundraiser from an annual Angel Donor who has supported this cause since even before our first annual Giving Tuesday Campaign. Furthermore, ESBR is grateful to include an Epic Promise Grant of $2,500 received this winter to aid transportation and technology funding. As a non-profit 501©3, ESBR is able to fund many services and projects for students thanks to the charitable support from donors. These resources allows ESBR to support its students and families who are the backbone of this Community and the surrounding area. Support also enables ESBR to potentially expand its opportunities, staffing, and student enrollment. Providing a viable, affordable, and intriguing education opportunity locally remains one of ESBR's top priorities.
