Tonight's Forecast: A slight chance of rain showers after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. East wind 6 to 12 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. New rainfall amounts less than a tenth of an inch possible.

WINTER STORM WATCH

* WHAT...Heavy snow and mixed precipitation possible. Total snow
accumulations of 6 to 18 inches and ice accumulations of a
light glaze possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of northern New York and central, northeast,
northwest and southern Vermont.

* WHEN...From Wednesday morning through late Thursday night.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening
commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow is likely to be wet in nature. The
potential for snowloading may increase the risk for power
outages.

Maybe you met Pete Hill from the transfer station, around town or grew up with him. He had been having health issues of late and had to give up his job at the transfer station. Pete really enjoyed this job and meeting all of you. His birthday is April 14th, and would enjoy getting cards (card shower)from you. If not a birthday card, maybe even a Get Well card would be nice to help cheer him up as he is currently in the hospital.

Star Lake Manatee Project announced.

Efforts to clean up Star Lake have received a major boost with the generous donation of a pair of freshwater manatees that will be introduced into the lake as soon as the ice has cleared. Bradley and Mary Parker, formerly of Mount Holly, have agreed to provide the manatees from their private aquarium in Bar Harbor, Maine. The mammals, also known as "sea cows", are expected to clear the lake of excessive vegetation before the summer boating and swimming season according to the Star Lake Homeowners Association.

Mr. Parker said that the two young manatees, which weigh about 850 pounds each, are docile, aquatic, air breathing mammals that are mostly herbivores and can consume over 100 pounds of plants per day. Manatees feed on aquatic plants for up to 10 hours per day and sleep much of the remaining time. They have been successfully introduced to clear clogged rivers and waterways for boaters and swimmers in several areas.

Freshwater manatees are slow moving, nonaggressive mammals that are one of four known species of manatees. They can grow up to 12 feet in length and prefer to live in shallow, marshy areas like Star Lake. Manatees can live up to 60 years and their primary predators are crocodiles, not believed to occur in Star Lake.

Ludlow Rotary Prepares for 66th Annual Penny Sale

The Ludlow Rotary Club is at it again. The final stages are in place for the 66th Annual Penny Sale. This annual event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Black River High School auditorium in Ludlow. The Penny Sale starts at 6:00 p.m. and admission is free!

The Penny Sale is currently one of the largest fundraisers undertaken by the Ludlow Rotary Club. The proceeds are used for college scholarships for area high school students living in Cavendish, Ludlow, Plymouth and Mt. Holly. In addition to the scholarships the proceeds are used for local school events and community projects such as the Cavendish/Proctorsville Greven Field,

LPC-TV, Black River Valley Senior Center, Apple Blossom Cotillion, Mountainside House, Black River Museum, Black River Good Neighbors, the Rotary International Youth Exchange program as well as other worthy causes.

The prize list is long. Over 400 prizes totaling more than $25,000 in value will be given away during the evening! To name just a few of the donated prizes: bicycles, ski passes, local restaurant gift certificates, power tools, Red Sox tickets, home maintenance items, theatre tickets, gas cards, fire safety items, propane grill cylinders, garden tools, maple products and the all-time

favorite – cash! We will also have a swap table available for those of you who may want to swap your prize with another winner.

Our club is celebrating its 97th Anniversary this year and we will be giving away to the first 85 kids a free gift! Come help celebrate our 97 years of community and international service!

Our cash raffle of more than $1000.00 is always exciting. You do not need to be present to win the cash raffle but an additional $25.00 will be added to the winning ticket if present. Rotarians will be out and about selling raffle tickets at Shaw's and elsewhere in Ludlow on weekend afternoons from now until the evening of the Penny Sale. Raffle tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.

The prizes for the Penny Sale have been donated by area businesses and the Ludlow Rotary Club is grateful for their generosity. Mark your calendars now for Saturday, April 28, 6:00 p.m. the

Black River High School auditorium in Ludlow. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Refreshments will be

available.

For some, this "Mud Season Event" is an annual tradition. So, if this is your first Penny Sale or your 66th, we hope to see you for this fun-filled evening. Again, a special thank you to all the businesses for your generous donations and participation.
