Happy Friday !

Many of us are in the middle of winter storm Landon! Here at the farm we've had a bit of everything (rain, freezing rain, snow). It sure is white out there!
Our first calf of the season was born yesterday! We're expecting more, so remember to follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram to keep up with all the goings on!
Chicken was our top seller last week, but not to worry, we still have more! In fact, we roasted one for our dinner last night! Stop by the farm stand and get yours!
Maple breakfast sausage, kielbasa, and steaks are back in stock. We are just as excited as you!! And we also received a supply of Alchemy Garden's Beet Kraut! You've been asking for it, and now we have it.
Fresh bread and pastries will be arriving on Saturday. Our produce table is full as well.

We are looking forward to seeing you this weekend. We will be open 12:00 - 5:00. Reminder we are closed on Mondays. With all the new snow and accumulating snowbanks, please use caution when driving in and out of the driveway and watch for customers, dogs and grandchildren!

Busy Days = Burger Nights!

Last weekend was fantastic and busy! And around here, busy days means easy dinners. And is there anything easier than burger night?! Make your own patties from our ground beef packages, or if you'd like, check out our packages of pre-made burger patties.

Top them with your favorite toppings. Last week we made ours with onions, bacon, mushrooms and swiss cheese. And we ate every single bite!

We've got the burger in our farm stand - stop on by this weekend for a package or two!

Children's Dental Health Month at Community Kids Dental

"Sealants Make Sense" for Prevention and Protection of Young Teeth

Rutland -- Good dental health habits established early in life let kids grow up smiling, happy and confident. Celebrating National Children's Dental Health Month at Community Health in February helps us all spread the word that good oral health is important for kids too!

Community Health's pediatric dentist, family dentists and pediatricians together focus on prevention and spotting the warning signs that could indicate a problem in the making. Community Kids Dental's Pediatric Dentist Dr. Safaa Ahmed said recognizing Children's Dental Health Month is an important opportunity to highlight how oral health is a part of an individual's overall health.

The theme of this year's National Children's Dental Health Month is "Sealants Make Sense," and Dr. Ahmed agrees that sealants are one of the most successful methods for preventing decay especially in young permanent teeth.

"Adult molars first come in at six years old. You have your baby teeth, but you have that extra set of permanent molars. Children will eat their sticky foods and things are going to get stuck in the molar crevasses, and if you aren't careful cleaning, it's susceptible to get a cavity." Applying a sealant to the molars can protect the permanent teeth for years to come.

Kids grow up so fast, and in addition to good oral habits sealants can protect teeth for a healthy life. Routine remains important even in times of Covid. Dental and primary care checkups should not be delayed. Dr. Ahmed said establishing a dental home for a child at Community Kids Dental and getting into a routine of prevention is the key.

The American Association for Pediatric Dentistry recommends that every child establish a dental home by one year of age so the child becomes familiar with the dentist and the surroundings.

"You want them to come at 12 months and check every six months to make sure they are doing everything correctly. If they have a cavity, we'll catch it early," she said. "We can do the treatment in the chair and it's less traumatic for the child."

In February, Community Health is celebrating Children's Dental Health Month along with last month's opening of Community Kids Dental, a dental practice dedicated to children. "I think we are going to make a real impact in the community," said Dr. Ahmed. "We want to work within the community to better the oral health outcomes of the whole community."

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM THIS MORNING TO 1 PM EST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 13 inches. * WHERE...All of Vermont, as well as the Champlain Valley of New York. * WHEN...From 7 AM this morning to 1 PM EST Friday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes, especially Friday morning. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light rain and snow will develop across the area early this morning and change to all snow this afternoon with a dusting to 2 inches of accumulation expected by sunset. Snow intensity increases thereafter with moderate to heavy snow expected tonight into Friday morning accumulating an additional 7 to 12 inches before tapering off in the afternoon. In addition, a brief period of sleet is likely across far southern Rutland and Windsor Counties this evening through midnight before changing back to heavy, wet snow. This may result in isolated power outages from snow loading.

Ludlow Rotary Hears from Cavendish Town Manager

The February 1 luncheon meeting of the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC) featured Brendan McNamara, Cavendish Town Manager speaking to Rotarians and guests about the state of the Town of Cavendish. Cavendish is within the Rotary service district.

He reported there are concerns about the aging infrastructure in the water and sewer systems as well as the need for larger stormwater capacity. He wants the Town to be ahead of any concerns rather than reacting to a crisis. The Town is looking at the use of Covid recovery funds in ARPA to address some of the issues. As Town Manager for the past several years, McNamara spent his first five years continuing projects that were underway or in the planning stages from the prior Town Manager Richard Svec. Since then, he has enjoyed addressing new issues and projects.

His experience during the repaving of VT 131 was raised by an inquiring Rotarian. McNamara stated he is glad it is completed and while it wasn't pleasant to experience, the finished project is much nicer than the potholes. In response to another question, he stated that broadband service to the community is spotty and inconsistent. It is an issue the Town is trying to address. Asked whether there has been an increase in residents due to the pandemic, he stated judging by the increase volume at the transfer station, there are several new residents.

McNamara is a lifelong Cavendish resident who is pleased to be able to serve his home town in this capacity. He was educated at Green Mountain High School and Keene State College. He returned to his home town and is able to have a career here.

In other business, Rotary inducted new member Lauren Severy of Summit Solutions
Property Services in Ludlow as a new business member.
