FOLA Plans Special Song and Story Fest for Christmas Holidays

While Christmas may still be months away, FOLA (Friends of Ludlow Auditorium) have begun planning a very special Christmas program for everyone,

The program, entitled "A Christmas Wassail", will take place on Saturday, December 13 at 7 PM< in Heald Auditorium of Ludlow's Town Hall.

The Gypsy Reel and author Jon Clinch will be featured in this evening of holiday songs and stories.

The Gypsy Reel will feature Camille Parker on mandolin, Claudine Langille on banjo, Graham Parker on fiddle. According to Parker, the audience will be treated to "modern Christmas favorites, beloved carols, traditional Celtic instrumentals, and a few unexpected surprises.

Special guest, Jon Clinch, will share a favorite passage or two from Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol and his own Marley, just to make sure you leave full of good cheer.

FOLA Chairman, Jim Alic, added that "everyone should mark this on their calendar to get into the holiday spirit, especially the younger folks."

The event is free to everyone. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Call 802-228-3238 for information.

Ludlow Rotary Club Hears from Phill Gatenby of the Vermont Covered Bridge Society

At their recent meeting, Ludlow Rotary heard from Phill Gatenby, an Englishman in Vermont, who had never seen or even heard of a covered bridge. Phill now has a series on Okemo Valley TV chronicling each of Vermont's 100 covered bridges, a project he undertook when he kept finding them as he explored Vermont. Ludlow Rotary was treated to hearing about his quest to visit and document the history of all of Vermont's remaining one hundred covered bridges and the water courses they traverse. You may watch the series to hear Gatenby's delight in exploring each one's different color, size and shape as well as the stories of trying to get under each one. The link to the series is here:

In addition to Phill speaking to the Club, Rotary President Kevin Barnes accepted a flag from Uli Burkhard, a Rotarian visiting from Germany. Other visitors included Jan and Ken Grack, Rotarians from Berthoud, Colorado.
