Dear TRSU Community, As shared with you in previous messages, PowerSchool, a third-party vendor we use for managing student and employee information, experienced a data security incident on December 28, 2024. It is important to note that our local systems were not affected. However, certain information from our district stored on PowerSchool's Student Information System (SIS) may have been compromised. PowerSchool is offering two years of complimentary identity protection services and credit monitoring services to students and educators who enroll by July 31, 2025. Details about how to enroll can be found at this website PowerSchool Notice of Data Breach. Winsome Fly found in Mount Holly Thanks to an observant biologist in Washington state a Winsome Fly (Istocheta aldrichi) egg on a Japanese Beetle reported on the Mount Holly Biodiversity Project iNaturalist website was seen and confirmed. The Winsome Fly is a natural parasite of Japanese Beetles and was introduced into the U.S years ago in an effort to control the destructive beetle introduced accidently from Japan in 1912. This report is a great example of how the iNaturalist program can find important information through scientific collaboration. A good reason to get out exploring nature and report your finding on iNaturalist. If you find a Japanese Beetle (yes, they have begun emerging now) with a tiny white spot on its back (thorax) near its head do NOT kill that beetle. It is already doomed, will not be able to lay its normal 30-40 eggs, and after the Winsome Fly larva hatches inside the beetle and eats its insides it will emerge as a small fly that will go on to lay its own eggs on more Japanese Beetles.
