Star Lake Saturday, June 13

This is a reminder of our “Spring Cleaning” event to be held from 10 am to noon on this coming Saturday, June 6. We will gather by Odd Fellows Hall and begin preparing the way for bottom barriers to be installed in early July.

Many Mount Holly folks have taken part in previous years. We look forward to welcoming veteran, and first-time, helpers for this kickoff event. Contact Phil Leonard (802) 259-2694, or p.leonard@asu.edu if you have questions.

CROWN POINT ROAD HIKE IN PLYMOUTH

On Saturday, June 13th the Crown Point Road Association will hold a hike on the 1776 section of the military road in Plymouth. It will include a stop at the Unknown Soldiers gravesite and continue along where some early families settled. The 1759 road did not pass through Plymouth. The section from Cavendish to Shrewsbury was moved further north to avoid the crossing of several rivers. This later road entered Plymouth near Dix Hill and followed Scout Camp Road around Lake Amherst and west toward Mount Holly.

Mount Holly historian Dennis Devereux, a long-time member of the Crown Point Road Association, will lead the hike. Plan to meet at the former Harry’s Restaurant at 3621 Route 103 at 10 a.m. and wear sturdy shoes. There may be some carpooling. He can be reached at 802-259-2460 or ddevereux@vermontel.net.

Ludlow Rotary heard horror stories about scams and frauds from M&T Bank branch manager, Art Randolph at a recent meeting. Randolph, a long time Rotarian, provided written and verbal details of how to avoid becoming a victim of such scams.

He cautioned that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. He also said count to ten on any call, text or email which is suspicious. He urged skepticism and further checking the source of emails which are possibly a fake from what is believed to be a familiar source, by hovering over the sender address to see whether the sender is valid. Oftentimes they look like a familiar business or contact, but the email will not be from that source. Those are all scams.

People in our communities are falling victim to scams daily. The bank makes an effort to discourage withdrawal of unusual amounts of funds from individual accounts for what they have found to be fraudulent sources. Randolph also cautioned, "never let a stranger come to your home to pick up large amounts of cash, regardless if they say it is for a loved one." Take it slowly and never act with urgency to be safe.

MOUNT HOLLY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. ROAST BEEF SUPPER

The Mount Holly Volunteer Fire Dept. is holding their Roast Beef Supper on Saturday, June 13th at the Odd Fellows Hall in Belmont.

The meal starts at 5:00 PM with take-outs available starting at 4:45 PM.

The cost is $18, $8 for those under 12, and free for children under 5 years old.
