A two-day holiday, most associated with Mexican communities, Dia de los Muertos is a time to reunite the living and the dead. Families and communities create "ofrendas" (altar) to honor those that have passed and to encourage their return at this time of year. Far from a dark and somber occasion, it is a celebration filled with good food, laughter, memories and fun.
On November 2 (Saturday), the Cavendish Historical Society (CHS) will be hosting a Dia de los Muertos celebration at the Cavendish Library, 573 Main St. Proctorsville. From 3:30-5:30 there will be a workshop to create items for the community ofrenda including: papel picado (paper cuts); paper flowers; tin ornaments; mask making; vase/candle holders; "sugar skulls" and more. A pot luck supper will take place immediately following the workshops from 5:30-7 pm.
This event is free and open to the public. Donations welcomed and appreciated. Happy Friday everyone. The weekend is here and the weather here in Mount Holly is looking to be mighty fine!
We had so much fun last weekend! Our farm stand was busy and we got meet so many new people, and had nice visits with our regular customers. Also during the weekend, we welcomed our 3,000th farm stand customer for 2024! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Need a pumpkin or two? Well look no further, we've got some. Just in time for your decorating and/or carving. Grown by our friends at MacLennan Farm in Windsor, these pumpkins are beautiful! And guess the weight of your pumpkin and save 10%!
Fresh bread will be arriving on Saturday, along with some yummy treats from Mountain Robin!
Our produce vendors have supplied us with greens, spinach, onions, garlic, carrots, beets, apples and peppers. Stop on in and take a look at their offerings!
On our shelves you'll find honey, mustards, jams, hot sauce, soaps, dishcloths, canvas prints, note cards, postcards and vinegar. A little bit of everything and then some!
It's chili season! Grab some ground beef for your pot. Add a little spice and flavor to your recipe with some of our Italian sausage.
And did we mention that Goodman's take-and-bake pizzas are back in stock!! They are and you'll want to stop by and grab a couple.

Northwest wind 2 to 7 mph. | | | | | Attention Mount Holly Residents Those of you who did not receive a ballot in the mail, please contact our Town Clerk at 802-259-2391 as she has ballots that could not be mailed do to wrong addresses. | | | | | HIKES INTO THE YALE FOREST Hikes to be offered into the Yale Forest starting next week. Mount Holly is home to 462 acres that are part of Yale's Forestry program. The land was given to them in 1922 by the family of Joseph Bowen. He was a graduate of the Yale School of Forestry who was killed when shot down over France in World War one. The hikes will be held from the middle of October until early November. They are moderate walks along an early road. Learn about the history of the area and visit the plaque that was placed in memory of the young pilot who did not come home. There will be several opportunities to join the hour and a half trek. | | | | | Trail Work-Bee this Saturday, 10/19/24 at 9 a.m.! Join us for the first of two (2) trail work-bee days this Saturday, October 19th, at 9 a.m. We will be meeting on RTE 103 at 9 a.m. on the flats at the pull-off area for parking. We will be working on state land, so anyone operating a chainsaw will need to have proper safety equipment, including chaps, a helmet, and eye protection. Kids are encouraged to come and help drag brush! ATVs are requested, but if you do not have one, you may be able to ride with another person.
