...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...
* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.
* WHERE...Essex County New York and all of central and northern
Vermont except the immediate Champlain Valley and Champlain
Islands.
* WHEN...Through late tonight.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms associated
with an approaching frontal system will bring a renewed
threat of flash flooding across much of Vermont and Essex
County New York on Sunday. Lingering impacts of high water
may linger through Sunday night.
Total rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.0 inches are expected,
with locally higher amounts with thunderstorm activity.

Greetings everyoneI have been receiving emails from townspeople looking for assistance with cleaning up in the village. I have heard from Patrick Andstadt, who has a business here in town and he is willing to help as much as he can to make light work and save a lot of physical labor. He has a 52 inch power broom and a power rake for driveways that works well in wet conditions. He also has a bucket, broom and a Kabota tractor. Patrick works at Carris Reels also, but will give any time he can. You can call him directly at 802-770-0433 or 802-492-3703.This is not meant to be a finished project that has been on your list of things to do, but to get you so you can use your driveway and remove debris from your property. I hope all of you are doing well after this flood we just experienced? Hats off to our town road crew and selectboard members plus many others who worked day and night to get our roads back up to snuff. What a great job they did and still are doing.

It is time for another Chit Chat to go out as our deadline is coming Saturday July 22^nd, by 6 pm. Please have all Articles, Announcements, Advertisements and any other item you wish to share with our community to us by then. This month as I have family visiting, Caitlin Boyle is doing the paper for me. She is checking all the Chit Chat emails so be sure to say hi, to her.

Dear MHCA members, volunteers and friends -
One of the many strengths of our local community is our ability to come
together and support one another during challenging times. While the
town and state crews are doing a great job getting roads back in shape,
those with flooded basements or other impacts on their property may need
a hand from their neighbors.
If you would like to volunteer to help, please send email us at
mhcavt@gmail.com or contact Jennifer (614-668-5282)
Linda (802-345-1740) and we will add you to the list. Let us know if there
are particular times/days when you are likely to be available. And if there
are particular skills or tools you are able to bring to the process, please let
us know that as well. We are working in coordination with the town
emergency management team to streamline our efforts.
We will assess volunteer capacity and send out an announcement thru the
newsflash, both the town and MHCA websites as well as Facebook to alert
folks about volunteer assistance. We will connect volunteers to those in
need.
If you are among those who've been affected by the floods and would
welcome a volunteer crew, please let us know that as well, One of our
board members will reach out to find out more and help coordinate to get
volunteers to you once we have an available pool.

difference with our friends and neighbors.

Individuals who suffered losses in the storm should report that damage to Vermont 211, either by dialing 2-1-1 or by visiting vermont211.org. This data will be used to inform a decision whether the state qualifies for a declaration. If the state qualifies then funds would open up from
the Individual Assistance program.

This program would help individuals impacted by the disaster seek reimbursement for necessary expenses and serious needs that cannot be met through insurance or other forms of assistance. Eligible expenses include rental assistance, home repair, home replacement, and lodging, among other expenses.

Town of Mount Holly

Another day of flood recovery road repairs for the Town Road Crew, local contractors, and Town of Poultney DPW. The town excavator and local contractors worked on major repairs/wash outs that included but not limited to Healdville Rd, Hedgehog Hill Road N, and Belmont Rd at Gates Intersection. The town grader worked on spreading road aggregate in numerous locations, filling rills left behind by the storm. The Town of Poultney DPW used their excavator and 3 dump trucks to complete repairs on Beaver Meadow Road and then moved over to Barlow Road. They hope to finish Barlow Rd repair tomorrow before they have to head back home and tend to their own roadways. Super thankful for their mutual aid. The town loader and 16 trucks helped move and manage over 1000 tons of road building aggregate we brought in today, with the crews above using that up a fast as it comes in. The crews above will continue to work their way around town tomorrow performing repairs. Our major repairs that are left are at Freeman Brook/Lushes Acres (photo below of damage, Markowski Excavating mobilized today) and a steep slope repair on Healdville Rd.

VTrans will be traveling around town tomorrow (Thursday) doing their own damage assessment of the town (taking photos and measurements of damage), this is a critical step towards FEMA disaster declaration for the region/state.

As mentioned before our first priority is to make the roads passable and safe. In the coming weeks the Town Road Crew and contractors will be doing final restoration (final grading, asphalt repairs, ditching and shoulder grading, etc.). In the meantime please proceed with caution and expect some bumps.

The town is looking into additional hours at the transfer station for those that need to dispose of storm debris. We will have a better idea tomorrow if this is something that can be done and will post to newsflash and fb.

Town of Mount Holly Seeks Highway Maintenance Worker

The Town of Mount Holly seeks an experienced highway maintenance worker to join its road crew. Paper copies of the job description and application can also be picked up in person at the Mount Holly Town Office at 50 School Street in Mount Holly.
