If your property lies within a "river corridor," (an area marked in orange or purple on this map) then the Planning Commission would like to hear from you. We will discuss an update to our existing Flood Hazard Area Regulations at the next special meeting, and a public hearing to follow a few weeks later. This updated bylaw will offer you additional protection for your property from upstream hazards. It will also reduce the cost to the Town (paid by taxes) in the event of another FEMA-declared disaster.

HELP NEEDED – CITIZEN SCIENTISTS!!
Would you like to learn more about the wildlife in our town and how to identify what animals made those tracks in your yard? Then we have the perfect project for you to join! Our Introduction to Wildlife Tracking Training Program on Saturday, November 5, 10 a.m.– 12 p.m. at the Meeting House, will provide training to help you learn how to identify wildlife tracks and prepare you to volunteer to help the Shrewsbury Conservation Commission gather hard data on wildlife road crossings here in Shrewsbury.
What do you need to do as a volunteer tracker? After a snowfall you would need to walk a section of road here in town and record the wildlife tracks you see. We hope to have enough volunteers so that you'll have a partner to go out with.
Your route would ideally be checked five times a year. This is a three year project. When finished, our sightings will provide data to update and refine wildlife corridors in Shrewsbury.
We had lots of fun getting together for wildlife tracking walks last year. I hope you'll consider joining our Wildlife Road Crossing Project this winter. You may even start looking forward to fresh snow falls!

Meet at Plymouth Road parking lot.  We'll work on ditches, tree clipping, lopping & sawing. Helpful tools to bring:  Saws (large and small), loppers, rakes, clippers.  Please also bring water, gloves and extra layers.  Contact Lana at lanafez@gmail.com with questions.

 HIKE INTO THE YALE FOREST 

   Hikes will be offered over the next two weeks into the Yale Forest. Mount Holly is home to 462 acres that are owned by Yale University for their Forestry Program. The property was given to Yale by the family of Joseph Bowen who was a graduate. He died when shot down over France in 1918 during World War 1. 

  The hikes are moderate walks along an early road that provide some history of the area and a visit to the site of a plaque that was placed in memory of the young pilot who did not come home. Hikes are finalized a day or two ahead when the weather forecast is known. Please call 802-259-2460 and leave a message if interested. There will be several opportunities to join the hour and a half outing.

Your Community, Your Voice: A Community Vision Survey

With support from the State of Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, the Town of Mount Holly is engaging community members, businesses, and organizations to identify and understand community concerns related to housing, economic development, and public infrastructure.
Historically, Mount Holly has had many thriving hamlets. Due to land use and economic changes, only two areas remain with a development density to support public infrastructure: the Municipal Center and the Village of Belmont.
The Municipal Center is the functional center of our town and hosts government, education, highway, and emergency services. There is no way to avoid continued public investment in these facilities. However, as these facilities age, those costs are likely to rise. Aging or inadequate infrastructure presents a financial liability to the community.
The historic Village of Belmont is the cultural center of the town—home to our store, library, church, museum, public park, village green, bandstand, and two community assembly areas. Of course, it is where our beloved Cider Days is held. These are important assets that belong to all residents of Mount Holly—not just those who happen to have a Belmont mailing address.
This project aims to identify barriers to development in these two areas of town, consider methods of removing those barriers, and identify sources of funding that do not rely on local taxation. Key to this endeavor is community input. We will enlist input from community members, businesses and organizations through a survey, interviews and community meetings. We encourage all Mount Holly residents to participate in these efforts. This survey is just the first step.

Printed copies will be available and can be returned at the Town Office and the Town Library. The survey will close on November 30th.
 
Your input is essential to this process. Answers will be anonymous and remain private. The results will be aggregated, compiled and presented as part of a report in the months to come. Your answers will guide us in maximizing the benefit to the community of our American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and other grant funding to address community challenges.
