Hi Folks,
Here we are with Halloween and the little ghosts and goblins getting ready to visit some homes for tasty candy treats.  The leaves are most gone from the trees around our yards in anticipation of winter soon on the way.
Tis another Chit Chat deadline coming up this Friday October 22nd, by 6:00 pm.  Please have all articles, announcements, advertisements and any other item you wish to have posted in the Chit Chat to me by then.  Remember we love all things especially pictures to be in color.
Also if you send me anything I will answer to let you know I have it.  I am finding things going to my VTel spam if sent on the 22nd so I don't get them until after the deadline and the paper is at the printers.  Please if you don't hear from me contact me via email or phone 259-2314 so I can verify I have received your item.
I hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween.
Happy Halloween,
Diana

Got Leaves?  Don't Rake!

Leaves made the great Green Mountains green all summer and now provide the beauty of autumn across the Vermont landscape.  Next they are dropped from their trees to add fertility and build soil.  The key point here is to use those rich leaves.  Do not remove or discard them as is so often the misguided custom.  The second message this week is about the great importance of water to plants heading into winter.  Let's look at why we should not rake away our leaves and how to prepare your perennial shrubs for winter with big drinks of water.
