Friday again already — and with it, a wide-open weekend just waiting to be filled. This past week, Vermont threw everything at us: sunshine, warm summer breezes, a good crack of thunder, a haze of smoke, and rain — followed by more rain. Somehow the farm keeps humming along through all of it, and we hope you're ready for a good weekend ahead too. We'd love to see you at the farm stand. Here's what's on deck: Saturday brings freshly baked breads to the counter, and Millicent's sourdough English muffins already arrived yesterday. Stevens Farm's sweet treats join them tomorrow — the kind of counter that's dangerous to walk past. Raspberries are back this weekend too, starting Saturday. They disappeared fast last week, so if you want some, don't dawdle. Your weekend dinner plans are covered: beef (ground beef, steaks, ribs, roasts), pork (sausage, bacon, ribs, roasts), and fresh chicken. If you're standing there wondering what to make, just ask — we love helping you plan the meal. And the produce table is deep into summer harvest mode: onions, garlic, salad greens, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, and snap peas. Bring a bag, fill it up, take summer home with you. THE MOUNT HOLLY COMMUNITY HISTORICAL MUSEUM ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting and potluck meal of the Community Historical Museum will be held on Tuesday, July 21st at 6 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall in Belmont. The evening begins with a potluck meal and members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share, and their own place setting. Dues can be paid, and many mammoth themed items will be available to purchase. A short business meeting begins at 7 p.m. The speakers will discuss our state’s 250th. plans for 2027 and are members of the Vermont 250 Commission. The program is free and open to the public. FINAL LOST DOG UPDATE
SHES HOME!!!!!!!! She was spotted and recovered on 7/15 in the early am. She is matted and has lost weight but she has been resting and sleeping all day. She still doesn't know her name but it is SweetP. We will see her vet on Friday for a full check up and until then it's organic chicken breast and broth.
Our town is full of hero's who have helped everyday that she was gone. The hero's who rescued her this morning are Melanie, James, Angus and especially Tom (who she nipped in the process). I am grateful that you all went so far above and beyond to bring her home.
We've taken down all the lost dog signs with a few missing. Central Vermont Canine Rescue would love them all back for the next lost dog. If you took one down for me when you heard she was recovered ....thank you. If you could drop it off anywhere at 2062 Belmont Road I will be grateful.

Winsome Fly controls Japanese Beetles in Mount Holly!
Beetles with one or more white spots just behind their heads are infected with the parasitic Winsome Fly and should not be killed or trapped. (see photo) They are already dying and incubating the beneficial Winsome Fly that will hatch and infect more Japanese Beetles. This biological control can be very successful if we let the fly complete its life cycle in the beetles.

The Mount Holly Community Historical Museum is pleased to have Peter Coldwell talk about the Volunteers for Peace group he led for many years. These young people were welcomed from many countries to stay at the Odd Fellows Hall in Belmont and volunteered to help with needed projected in our area. While here they also got to meet many local people and visit several sites. The program will be held at the Perkins House Museum on the Village Green in Belmont at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18th. Hi Everyone, It is that time again for another Chit Chat to go out. This will be for August and now the year is half over as well as the summer. That went fast. Please have all articles, announcements, advertisements and any other item you wish to share with our community to me by Wednesday July 22nd, by 6:00 pm. Remember color photos and ads look great with the paper posted on the website. I plan to go to print on Thursday the 23rd and if all goes as planned the paper in the Post Offices on Friday the 24th. Don’t forget the Ham Supper with all the fixings and pies on Saturday the 25th at 5:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Hall. This supports the Mt. Moriah #96 Masons in East Wallingford. FRESH Chicken!We're on our third week of fresh chicken! Our chickens are pasture-raised right here on our farm — farm fresh and simply delicious. How many meals can you get out of one chicken, you ask?! For example, we (just the two of us) started with a 4½ pound chicken. We grilled both breasts and had most of them for dinner. The leftover cooked breast became lunch the next day — a chicken sandwich. Then we used up the legs and thighs for a super yummy Thai Basil Chicken dinner. We froze the wings, 'cause I like to save up a few for "wing night." And that left us with the carcass, which also went into the freezer. When I have a few carcasses on hand, I gently toss them into the slow cooker, add some water and veggie scraps if I have them, and let it simmer for a couple of days. Strain it and freeze the stock — and Jim gets the leftover meat and bones, now nice and soft. So there you have it: three meals, frozen stock, and one happy dog. Let's not forget our weekly unbagged special! Every Wednesday and Thursday, 12:00–5:00. Simply stop by with your own bag, bowl, cooler, or container and save $0.50/lb — from our chill tank to your bag, no reservations required. This is a great opportunity to break down your bird and freeze the parts for winter meals. Not sure how to cut up a chicken? Here's a link to help you. Day 13 Lost Dog
No new sightings today. We need to get her eating at one of the feeding stations so we know where to put the HavaHeart trap. This is the only way we will be able to catch her. So please don't put food out or feed her so she'll navigate to where we have food and cameras.
Things that will push her farther and farther away are chasing her, calling for her, or just pushing her out of any sort of safety or comfort zone she might find.
If you see her, simply report her to the Central VT Canine Recovery CVCR at 802-357-3755 ASAP. |
