| | | | | Ludlow Rotary Readies for 100th Anniversary
Back on January 27, 1927, the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC) was chartered by Rotary International. It had 25 chartered members. Since that time the LRC has grown and become a major contributor to the Okemo Valley area, the nation and international groups.
As it prepares for its 100th anniversary, it is gathering information on the club's history, membership, and many activities.
Sharon Bixby and Jim Rumrill, co-chairs of the anniversary committee, indicated that, while it has a large volume of information for its summary report of the club's history, it needs the help of people in its service area, Ludlow, Mt Holly, Cavendish, and Plymouth, to gather more information and photos that area residents may have of the LRC's activities, members, and contributions to the area.
"If local folks possess any photos or information about the club, we'd love to receive it", noted Rumrill. He added that all such contributions would be recognized by the club. To send such information to the LRC, there are several ways to use:

THE ENSLAVED REVOLUTIONARY WAR SOLDIER Estimates are that between 5,000-8,000 African Americans fought against the British, including Peter Tumbo and Prince Robinson, who settled in Cavendish following the war. However, far more (estimates of 20,000) were Loyalists. These numbers do not reflect the number of enslaved women and children who fled to British encampments in the hopes of freedom, nor those who used the chaotic time to escape to maroon communities, such as the Great Dismal Swamp on the border of Virginia and North Carolina.
On February 28 (Saturday), at 1 pm, the Cavendish Historical Society (CHS) , in conjunction with the Cavendish Fletcher Community Library, 573 Main St., will hold a talk about the role of the enslaved peoples during the Revolutionary War period. This will include showing portions of Ken Burns' American Revolution series as well as discussing Cavendish's patriots- Tumbo and Robinson.
The talk will be held at the Cavendish Library in Proctorsville. This event is free and open to the public. It's recommended for those 12 and up. The superintendent's report within the annual report explains how school taxes and education funding are determined in the state of Vermont. It is important to understand that your school taxes are influenced by factors beyond statewide education spending. The superintendent's report clarifies how much of the change in your taxes is due to increased education spending across Vermont versus changes in the market values of local property. For the 2026-27 school year, LMHUUSD is proposing a "level service budget." In practical terms, this means the district is requesting just enough funding to maintain all current programs, staffing, services, and daily operations exactly as they are—without adding or eliminating anything. To achieve this, we are seeking a modest increase in our budget to account for rising costs associated with providing these same services next year. The current LMH budget is $10,153,619, we are seeking a level service budget for 2026-27 of $10,455,017. This is a 2.97% increase. Maple Monday! Hey there, welcome to this week's Maple Monday where we'll share another recipe. It's been cold here at the farm for the past few weeks. Bone chilling cold! It is definitely soup, stew and chili weather! I love putting a big pot of chili in the slow cooker first thing in the morning, and knowing it'll be ready for dinner that evening. Our recipe this week is Maple Bourbon Chili. The recipe calls for both maple syrup and bourbon. I'm thinking we could use our Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup for double the taste! Nothing like coming in from a day on the mountain to a bowl of delicious chili. Serve it with cornbread (drizzled in maple syrup of course).
