You may have seen a post saying we'd already shifted to 10am openings... turns out my enthusiasm got ahead of my calendar 🤦♀️ Here's the corrected scoop:
• Now through Thursday: current hours (11am-6pm)
• Starting Friday, 12/19-12/23: 10am–7pm daily On Christmas Eve,12/24, we will be open 10am-3pm. Huge thanks to anyone who popped by early this week — and extra apologies if you were greeted by a locked door instead of festive vibes 🎁 Can't wait to see you in the shop as we cruise into the final days of the holiday season!

Public Scoping Meeting Planned for Okemo State Forest Long Range Management Plan
Ludlow, VT - The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources is revising the Long Range Management Plan (LRMP) for the Okemo State Forest. The public is invited to participate in the planning process and share input on the future use and conservation of these state lands. An in-person public scoping meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, beginning a month-long opportunity for the public to learn about the property and submit comments. The comment period will remain open until January 23, 2026. Situated in the Southern Green Mountains, Okemo State Forest covers an area of 7,983 acres spanning the towns of Andover, Ludlow, Mount Holly, and Weston. It features large blocks of contiguous forests, important recreation opportunities (Healdville Trail, Buttermilk Falls), and the Okemo Mountain Resort. The forest also provides a critical wildlife corridor, serving as the only substantial north-south connection between the Coolidge State Forest and the Green Mountains National Forest, and as an east-west link between forest blocks in Grafton and Athens and the main spine of the Green Mountains. Long range management plans guide land management on state-owned lands for a 20-year period, balancing ecological, recreational, cultural, and economic values. Public scoping is an early and important step in the process, giving Vermonters the opportunity to share how they use and value these lands. Public input at this stage helps shape the plan, which will be shared for further public comment before a final draft is adopted.

A backup date of December 18 has been reserved in case of inclement weather and updates about the final meeting date will be posted online prior to the event.
There are multiple ways to learn about the LRMP revision and provide input. The public can attend the scheduled in-person meeting, watch the recorded meeting, or explore the project StoryMap. Comments can be submitted at the meeting, by email to anr.statelandsplanning@vermont.gov, or through an online survey that will be posted after the public meeting.

Vermont Home GardenerHoliday Plant Tips
- Christmas Tree Care: Naturally, keep real trees watered to help them stay green and fire safe. Keep fresh fruits (bananas, apples, pears, peaches, avocados, melons, etc.) far away from your tree because many fruits give off a gas (ethylene) that will stimulate the tree to drop its needles.
- Mistletoe & Holly (and lilies) are wonderful decorations, but the berries are poisonous to eat. Keep these decorations out of reach of cats, dogs, and children. Poinsettias and Christmas Cactus are safe options.
- Repurpose your Christmas tree after the holidays. Cut off the boughs and use them for winter mulch protection. The boughs can be laid over perennials, providing some additional protection from desiccating winds and temperature fluctuations. Place the boughs right on the snow over where the plants are or around woody stems. Alternatively, if you put the intact tree near other trees or bushes it will provide great winter shelter for small birds on cold windy nights.
- Caring for Poinsettias. Remove any decorative pot cover to allow drainage. Place your plant in a location with bright light (6 hours/day, or more) and temperatures between 60-70oF. Allow poinsettias to dry between watering but not wilt. The plant is ready to be watered when the soil is dry to the touch and, when the pot and plant are lifted, it is relatively light. Given favorable conditions the colorful flowers (bracts) will retain their color through the winter and the plant can grow over summer to become a flowering plant again next winter.
