Holly with their big blower blowing leaves off the road into the ditch. A few days later driving around Ludlow and saw their big blower blowing the leaves out of the ditch's so the culverts wouldn't get plugged and wash the roads out. Mount Holly School is fundraising for their music program getting new concert risers. We will be hosting a FREE concert on November 8th. The concert will be at 7 pm at Odd Fellows in Belmont, in Mount Holly. We will have three musicians performing along with free appetizers and desserts during the event. It will be BYOB and cash donations will be appreciated to help MHS reach their goal to getting new risers.

Hi Folks, Here we are just before Thanksgiving and with a snow shower for a taste of what is to come. I am getting ready for knee replacement surgery on the 21st. I wish not to have anything to worry about while getting that done. So the Chit Chat Deadline will be Tuesday November 18th, by 6:00 pm. Theater in the Woods Vermont presents Ten Minute Plays fundraiser dinner theater at Stone Valley Arts November 7 & 8; November 14-16 Thetaer in the Woods' annual fundraiser at Stone Valley Arts in Poultney takes place Friday and Saturday, November 7 & 8, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 14-16. Eight plays written by community writers are read by actors over two weekends in a dinner theater setting. Soups, salads and sides are served from 5:30 to 6:45 at the evening performances, with the readings beginning at 7 pm. Tickets for the evenings are $30; the November 16 Sunday matinee with refreshments afterwards is $25 and begins at 2 pm. This year's event is part of an expanded project supported in part by a Vermont Community Foundation Arts and Social Cohesion grant. Titled From Ten Minutes to One-Acts: Community Engagement Through Theater, it commenced in September with an open invitation to write a 10-minute play, in person or by Zoom. From the 23 plays submitted, eight were chosen to be brought to life in the presented readings. The initial read-through of those plays was a public event at the Theater in the Woods barn in Tinmouth which 45 people attended. "This is a favorite event for us, and for the community," Administrative Director Melissa Chesnut-Tangerman says. "Theater brings people together, and over the years producing Ten Minute Plays at Stone Valley Arts we've seen how hungry — and satisfied — audiences are for involvement in the process of creation." In addition to the usual talk-backs which follow the readings, audiences will be invited to nominate their favorite plays. Two will be chosen to be further developed into one-act plays that will be directed by Meg Bouchard over the winter and produced by Theater in the Woods in the spring. "We really hope that there are community members who participate with us in the process of creation, from the initial reads to the presented readings in November, all the way through to the one-acts in the spring," says director Meg Bouchard. "We're avid to include people, to reinforce and iterate the idea that art is not precious; art is an expression of the creative force in all of us, and it can be made by all of us." The venue has limited seating; people are encouraged not to delay booking their tickets. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. | | | | | New Hiking Trails in Mount Holly In late Oct., over twenty people inaugurated new hiking trails, sponsored by the Mount Holly Conservation Commission. Entrance to the trails is located near the junction of Old Syria Road and Shunpike and feature well marked loops of one to two miles, that wind through mature woods and past thriving beaver ponds. So, put on appropriate footwear, (there are some decidedly wet spots) as well as blaze orange and TAKE A HIKE!

2025 Grant-in-Aid for Star Lake The Town of Mount Holly was allocated funds for 2025 aquatic nuisance control work at Star Lake. This came under Grant 06140-25-WSMD-ANC-4269 from Vermont's Department of Environmental Conservation through the Lakes & Ponds Program of the Watershed Management Division. The grant also includes funding for the Greeter Program at Lake Ninevah under the auspices of the Farm and Wilderness Foundation. Both the Mount Holly Conservation Commission and the Farm & Wilderness Foundation are grateful for the support provided by this grant. Star Lake activities took place between May and early November, and reporting is due at the end of November. This article gives a brief summary of grant-supported activities. The work began with a May 29 public meeting co-hosted by the Mount Holly Conservation Commission and the Mount Holly Conservation Trust. June work sessions included cleanup and hand-pulling in preparation for the annual deployment of two bottom barriers facing the beach area. This was followed by further cleanup and the purchase and installation of a 30' Lake Bottom Blanket by a volunteer crew to provide boating access from Lake Street and to assess the use of barriers of this type. After evaluation, a second such Blanket, at 40', and accompanying rebar were purchased for use beginning in 2026. The crew continually monitored the barriers and their effect, and discussed modifications to rakes and possibilities regarding additional tools for hand-pulling. At the end of September the volunteer crew removed the 30' barrier and transported it for cleaning and winter storage. Some hand-pulling tools were ordered at season's end. After hibernation, volunteers will emerge for more work next spring and summer. We encourage more Mount Holly folks to join in next year's efforts.

It's November and the start of a brand new weekend! It's a chilly start to the day here at the farm, but will be warming up throughout the day. Yesterday we brought the cattle in from the pasture and they are now inside the big red barn where they'll stay through the winter months and early spring. The laying hens continue to provide us with delicious farm fresh eggs. They have access to the outside during the day, where they can forage for bugs and grass. We've got plenty of eggs for sale inside the farm stand. And thank you all for dropping by with your empty egg cartons. We sure do appreciate it. Keep 'em coming! Ever wonder what's inside our farm stand? Well .. we've got a little bit of everything! You'll find our very own beef (steak, roasts, ground), pork (sausage, ribs, roasts, ham), chicken (whole), maple (syrup, cream, candy, almonds) and eggs. We don't do it all, and that's why we've partnered with over 26 of our farmer friends and producers to offer other goodies like: honey, jams, mustard, coffee, vinegar, notecards, prints, pizza, ice cream, cider, dairy, veggies, bread, baked goods, cheese, and so much more!
