This is a project bike. Had many good adventures with her! Has been sitting for 2 years so needs like everything…brakes, tires, signal lights front and back, surface rust on chrome, and a key. | | | | | ANNUAL PHINEAS GAGE WALK & TALK
There are probably few readers in our area that aren't aware of Phineas Gage, the railroad foreman, who on September 13, 1848, had a tamping rod pass through his head as a result of a blasting accident, and lived for 12 more years. Thanks to Dr. John Harlow, his treating physician, his story is remembered today.
Each year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the accident, the Cavendish Historical Society hosts a Gage Walk & Talk. This year's Walk & Talk takes place on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the CHS Museum, Route 131 in Cavendish, VT. The program begins at 2 pm. The walk includes the location of the accident, Dr. Harlow's home/surgery, and the boarding house where Gage was taken after his injury. We even have an exact replica of Gage's skull.
The site of the accident is approximately three quarters of a mile from the Museum and by the time other sites of interest are visited and we return to the museum, you will have walked close to 2 miles. Participants can stop at any time. It's recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! Not sure how we got to the end of August so quickly though. Time sure has flown this summer. Kevin has been building a new hoop house for the laying hens and the pullets (young laying hens)! It's almost ready to welcome the flock inside! And our pullets started laying this week, so in a couple of weeks or so, we'll have eggs for everyone! We have fresh chicken this week in the farm stand. Sizes are between 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 pounds. Something for everyone. Nothing like a fresh chicken on the grill or the smoker, and this will be a good weekend for that! Take note, we will NOT have fresh chickens next week. Our veggies this weekend will include corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, onions, garlic, squash, shallots, and salad greens. And don't forget to grab some fresh mozzarella for those tomatoes! Inside the farm stand fridge you'll find yogurt, cider, butter and a variety of cheese! Pasteurized milk from Larson Farm is back!! You heard that right, we now have pasteurized milk. With the holiday weekend, how about some of our ground beef patties for your weekend gathering?! Conveniently packaged in 1lb packages, with four patties per package. Try saying that fast!! We'd love for you to stop by when you're out and about this weekend. Farm stand hours are Wednesdays through Sundays from 12:00-5:00. We are located at 1966 Healdville Road in Mount Holly. We are a working farm, please be mindful of hay equipment, customer traffic, and grandkids as you drive in and out of the driveway.

26th Annual Duck Race Features Over 650 Ducks Seeking Victory This past Saturday, over 650 ducks (rubber ducks to be certain) raced from the Depot Street bridge to Walker Bridge as the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC) conducted its 26th annual race down the Black River. According to the Head Duck, Sharon Bixby, the course was difficult for both the ducks and the Rotarians and friends helping them traverse the shallow and rocky waters of the river. Nonetheless, most of the ducks managed to cross the Walker Bridge finish line. The first ducks crossing the line rewarded their owners who had "rented" them with financial awards. They were: Duck #1 – awarded $200, owner, Anonymous Duck #2 – awarded $100, owner, Theresa Southworth Duck #3 – awarded $50, owner, Suzanne Theroux Corporate Duck winner – awarded "bragging rights", owner, The Book Nook And last (but not least) The last duck to make it across the finish line, awarded $25 and owned by Virginia Ward The proceeds from this year's race will go to the Mt. Holly Fire Department so they can purchase new hoses. Sharon Bixby, expressed her thanks to the various groups that assisted in the event, especially the businesses and those who purchased Duck tickets. While some of the river guidance staff are still trying to dry out their shoes, Sharon indicated that the LRC is busy planning next year's "river exercise"'. The first objective will be to identify an area non-profit group to benefit from the 2026 duck race. For information, contact Sharon at 802-228-8823.
