South wind around 8 mph. | | | | | ESBR Grateful for Fall 2023 Community Expeditions Ludlow, VT: It is with deep gratitude that ESBR announces another successful fundraiser to help support the school. For its Giving Tuesday 2023 Campaign, ESBR once again had several anonymous ("Angel") donors offer a Matching Fund Challenge of up to $7000 to be doubled. Thanks to the support of many wonderful believers in this cause, ESBR efforts raised $8,688. This means the $7000 will be donated by the Angel Donors, bringing the grand total of funds raised for the school from the Giving Tuesday 2023 Campaign to $15,688! ESBR is extremely grateful both to the Match Challenge donors as well as the numerous generous supporters who made sure this opportunity was achieved. The school continues to communicate updates with the Vermont State Board of Education so as to renew the one-year Independent Approval for next school year, a feat like this is tremendous momentum moving forward. Opportunities such as the Matching Fund Challenge allows the school to expand and thrive, sustaining a school in this community which has always been a foremost goal. Every bit helps and everyone's contributions are visible within a unique setting such as ESBR. Thank you again everyone for the support, ESBR looks forward to sharing further exciting news in the near future.

Southwest wind around 5 mph. | | | | | The Okemo Valley Coat Drive is an annual initiative aimed at collecting warm jackets and winter coats to distribute among individuals and families in need within the Okemo Valley community and is organized by William Raveis Vermont Properties. This year, the Vermont Properties Team successfully collected an abundant supply of jackets and winter coats to support the local community in need. All the donated jackets will be distributed to the Black River Good Neighbor Services, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential resources and support to individuals and families in the area.
The Black River Good Neighbor Services has been a pillar of support for the Okemo Valley community for many years. Through its various programs and services, this esteemed organization strives to address issues related to food security, clothing, household items, and more. They remain committed to their mission of helping those in need, and the donated jackets from the 2023 Coat Drive will significantly aid them in fulfilling their objectives.

"A Christmas Carol," by Charles Dickens, was written as a social commentary on the deplorable conditions for England's poor, He selected this format as being far more appealing than a tract, which many would have ignored. Cash strapped from his American tour, Dickens thought this was a good way to raise money for his growing family, and besides it was the right time of year for a good ghost story.
Dickens didn't make much money from the sale of his book-the binding was very expensive-but he left the world a richer place, with an endearing yearly tradition. Given the events of the last five months, following the July floods, his messages of charity and hope are quite appropriate.
In keeping with the spirit of this famous tale, the Cavendish Historical Society is hosting a Dickens' Christmas Carol Open Studio on December 17, Sunday, at the former Crows Corner Bakery, 73 Depot St. in Proctorsville from 3-5:30. It will feature a variety of workshops, including wreath and ornament making, and hot chocolate tasting.
