3rd Annual Best of Vermont Summer Festival
Announces 2023 Event Date & Presenting Sponsor

Okemo Valley, VT: The Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the dates for the third annual Best of Vermont Summer Festival! This two-day event is scheduled for Saturday, August 26 from 12 noon - 7 pm and Sunday, August 27 from 10 am - 4 pm in Ludlow, Vermont. The event will take place at Okemo Field on Route 103 the use of which is generously donated again by Lead Sponsor Okemo Mountain/Vail Resorts.

This festival is a great opportunity for everyone including locals, new residents, second homeowners, and visitors to enjoy specialty foods; wine, spirits & brew tastings; artisan products; fine art; awesome live music; ag demos; children's activities; and more! The Best of Vermont Summer Festival will be marketed throughout the Okemo Valley region, the state of Vermont, New England and the Northeast.

A special thank you to William Raveis Vermont Properties of Ludlow is the presenting sponsor again this year, for the third year in a row. It takes a village to support a signature event like this and those who step up to the plate are greatly appreciated! The festival will be seeking additional sponsors in various categories who will then be listed on the chamber's website here: https://www.yourplaceinvermont.com/best-of-vermont-summer-festival.

The chamber is also seeking partners, vendors, and volunteers including special event sponsors such as for the food tent, entertainment/music tent, children's activities, design tent, contests or other special activities. Community service groups such as civic clubs, youth groups, and retirees are also invited to participate as volunteers to help set up & take down the event as well as help out during the festival. Sponsor discounts will be given to participating chamber members and returning vendors will also be given preferential locations.

The organizing festival committee is made up of new and returning chamber members from around the region. We are still looking for a few more volunteers for the committee and during the event itself.

The chamber has a special festival web page where sponsor and vendor forms will be available shortly:  www.yourplaceinvermont.com/best-of-vermont-summer-festival. Those interested in participating may also contact Carol directly by emailing her at clighthall@yourplaceinvermont.com.

The Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit, member-driven association and the voice of 300+ businesses and the communities of 12 Towns & Villages in South Central Vermont along the VT Scenic Route 100 Byway surrounded by Okemo, Ascutney & Magic Mountains.  OVRCC provides advocacy, support, and unified regional marketing to promote and enhance businesses in the region as well as the four-season economy.

The Writers' Group will meet in my home, given that the heat in the library is still off when I last checked. (And it is brrrrrrisk out there.)  We will meet at 1:30 on Monday, February 6th.  My house is 508, the last house on Old Tiffany Road.  There will be coffee/tea/biscotti/scones/chocolate Valentines.  The focus will still be on memoir, and you are welcome but not required to bring a short piece on a reflection of your own.  I apologize; I will not have a white board. (It is stored in the library.). And I will not have photocopies.  But we can proceed with Improv Theater.  Forewarning: I have a lively dog.  Focus: what do you see as the particular challenges of memoir, effective techniques?
Thank you, Joan

Brr!

It's a cold one this morning here at the farm and we are expecting below zero weather throughout the day.  The farm animals are all warm, dry, fed and watered.  Fresh bedding adds another layer of warmth for the cattle, pigs and laying hens.

We'll have our farm stand open through the weekend.  It's been such a pleasure seeing everyone.  We've been exchanging recipes (see below), catching up, and sharing stories.

Our seasonal produce offerings include - carrots, onions, garlic, apples, squash, and sweet potatoes.  The produce farmers expect to have more greens available for us in about 3 weeks.

We stocked our fridge shelves with some amazing salami from Walnut Hill Farm.  Just in time for the super bowl!  Add some cheese curds, maple almonds and you've got yourself an award winning charcuterie board!
With the cold temps this weekend, don't forget to grab some Brown's Orchard apple cider.  Mulled cider is a must this time of year.

Pots of chili, soups and stews are on tap for the weekend as well.  Start with our ground beef, beef shanks, or ham hocks and you'll be a star in your kitchen!
We've got a bit of everything here in the farm stand.  Drop on by when you're out and about and check us out!  We'd love to see you.  We're open 12:00 - 5:00!

TRY THESE RECIPES!

We thought we'd share links to some amazing recipes our customers have shared with us as well as ones we've made this week.

MAPLE BOURBON BANANA PUDDING CAKE.  Try this with our bourbon barrel aged maple syrup!

LOUISIANA RED BEANS AND RICE.  Use our smoked ham hocks and chorizo for this one.

BEST EVER INSTANT POT ROAST.  So good with our chuck roast and veggies from our produce table.
FRENCH ONION BURGER.  Mad with our ground beef.
Enjoy and let us know which ones you try!

This Sunday Feb 5 10:00-noon!

Did you know that one of Vermont's largest maple sugar operations operates right here in Shrewsbury? Have you ever been tromping in the woods opposite John C. Stewart and Sons in Cuttingsville and seen multiple huge tubing running down the mountain? Ever wonder how the Stewart family manages to produce almost 40,000 gallons of syrup a year? Then come to the tour conducted by Alyssa Stewart and learn how they planned and developed this dream and explain their operation - while walking - or snowshoeing? - on some of their trails.
Tour is limited to 15 people so you must pre register. Send some of your questions ahead of time so Alyssa can be sure to address them on the tour!
