Another weekend has arrived and we are looking at some warmer temperatures here at the farm.  We've had a little bit of frost the last couple of mornings giving way to some beautiful afternoons. Calves have been weaned from their moms as we head into the winter season.  Cows were pregnancy checked and vaccinated yesterday and all is well on that front!  Turkeys get moved every few days to allow them to forage on fresh grass.  We've got our farm stand open this weekend.  We've got a little bit of everything and then some!  Our meat selection consists of pork, beef and chicken.  Stop on by and check out our meat list. We received a delivery of fresh ravioli from our friends at Vermont Fresh, and Jackson quickly got to work and has it nicely displayed in our fridge. Larson Farm's organic yogurt, milk and gelato are all in stock for the weekend as well.  With gift giving season coming up, stop by and check out our selection of handcrafted shadow boxes, canvas prints, note cards, soaps and more. Our bread bakers will not be baking this weekend.. However, we will have fresh baked goodies on Saturday (apple pies and scones). Fall root veggies are also in the farm stand.  Delicata and butternut squash, potatoes, and carrots.  We're looking forward to seeing you all.  Enjoy your weekend!   With the exception of service dogs, no dogs allowed at the farm.  Please be mindful of farm equipment, grandkids, vehicles and customers when driving in and out of our driveway.  Our farm stand is located at 1966 Healdville Road in Mount Holly.  Open Tuesdays through Sundays from 12:00pm-5:00pm.  Closed on Mondays! BURGERS !   Burger night can be any night, am I right?!  We had some the other night with sauteed onions, mushrooms and jowl bacon.  Top it with your choice of cheese and you're good to go. Archived Newsflash emails can be read at: https://mthollynewsflash.blogspot.com "Awakenings" Closes the Robin Williams Film Series Oct.29 The dramatic film, "Awakenings", will mark the final movie in FOLA's Robin Williams film at the Heald Auditorium in Ludlow Town Hall on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7pm. Awakenings is a 1990 American drama film directed by Penny Marshall. It is written by Steven Zaillian, who based his screenplay on Oliver Sacks's 1973 memoir Awakenings.  It stars Robin Williams as Dr. Malcolm Sayer and Robert de Niro as Leonard Lowe with Julie Kavner, Ruth Nelson, John Heard, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Stormare, and Max von Sydow. In 1969, Dr. Malcolm Sayer is a dedicated and caring physician at a local hospital in the Bronx borough of New York City. After working extensively with the catatonic patients who survived the 1917–1928 epidemic of encephalitis lethargica, Sayer discovers certain stimuli will reach beyond the patients' respective catatonic states; actions such as catching a ball, hearing familiar music, being called by their name, and enjoying human touch, all have unique effects on particular patients and offer a glimpse into their worlds. Patient Leonard Lowe seems to remain removed, but Sayer learns that Leonard is able to communicate with him by using a Ouija board. Sayer believes the drug L-Dopa, used in treating Parkinson's Disease, may offer a breakthrough for his own group of patients. A trial run with Leonard yields astounding results: Leonard completely "awakens" from his catatonic state. What transpires is the story of how these "awakened" patients react to their new environment. Nominated for three Academy Awards, "Awakenings" was well-received critically and at the box-office.  Film critic Roger Ebert noted, "What both the movie and the book convey is the immense courage of the patients and the profound experience of their doctors, as in a small way they reexperienced what it means to be born, to open your eyes and discover to your astonishment that "you" are alive."
