Archived Newsflash emails can be read at:   https://mthollynewsflash.blogspot.com Black River High School Graduation will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 10:00 a.m.  Due to the current guidelines provided by the Agency of Education, the graduation will only be a small intimate gathering.  The senior student may have only two guests.  The awarding of diplomas will be held in the Presidential Hall, as well as the senior class speaker and the guest speakers.  Seniors and their guests will be able to watch the speeches live in each of the Ludlow Elementary School classrooms. Karen at 802-259-3839 TandK3839@gmail.com Rutland Regional Planning Commission Alternate Needed   A resident is needed to represent our town at the monthly Rutland Regional Planning Commission (RRPC) meetings when our RRPC Representative is unavailable. The ideal candidate will have an interest in local and regional planning and a willingness to participate in Regional Board meetings with Mount Holly's best interests in mind. This individual must also be willing to work closely with our RRPC Rep. The most important qualification is a desire to serve our town. Whether a pro or a newbie to planning, your desire to serve and to represent Mount Holly, while learning along the way, are what counts. (The helpful staff at RRPC and a variety of free trainings and workshops will also be available to help you out.)  Our RRPC Representative & Alternate are our voices in regional planning decision-making. Our Rep & Alternate are also our link to new initiatives, opportunities and resources that might be of benefit to the town.  The ideal candidate will be available to attend at least one meeting a month. The Regional Board meets at 7:00 pm on the third Tuesday of each month (except for the months of July, August, and December) at the Opera House in Rutland. The Mount Holly Select Board meets at 6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the town office; a report on the Regional Board meeting, and any pertinent information for the town, will be on the agenda. Interested individuals should send a letter of interest with their qualifications to the Mount Holly Select Board, either by mail to PO Box 248, Mount Holly 05758, or by email to mounthollyselectboard@gmail.com to be received by noon on Monday, June 8th. The Select Board plans to appoint the RRPC Alternate at its next meeting on June 9, 2020.    Vermont Home Gardener:  Companion Planting & Succession   Garden planting and transplanting is now in full swing.  If we can avoid any more cold spells pretty much everything we want to grow can be planted from now on.  But one question remains, who makes good garden companions, who do not?   Plants affect their neighbors and the soil so we should try to place compatible or non-competitive plants near each other when possible.  A similar principle applies when deciding which plant follows recently removed ones (succession).  We don't want to re-plant the same plant or one that needs the same soil nutrients in the same place; that would risk depleting the soil and depriving the subsequent plant of what it needs to be healthy.
