A great way to get the whole family involved in the meal planning process .. hopefully you can convince them to help clean up too! We've got some great grass fed ground beef that is available in 1lb packages. And to make life a bit easier, we have ground beef patties (3 patties per package). And don't forget to grab some toppings .. bacon, onions, cheese, and maple syrup. Yes, drizzle a bit of maple syrup on top of your burger and you'll be calling us to say thanks! The logistics of the delivery of the scallops has proved to be a bit more challenging than we anticipated. We will be getting the scallops, however, it will NOT be this weekend. Archived Newsflash emails can be read at:   https://mthollynewsflash.blogspot.com VT FOODBANK/NATIONAL GUARD TO DISTRIBUTE MEALS 21 APRIL 2020 The Vermont Foodbank and Vermont National Guard will distribute food to those in need at five different areas of Vermont beginning on Wednesday. These points of distribution will help ease demand on food shelves around that state that have seen a surge in demand. The National Guard will set up and operate Points of Distribution (PODs) at state airports in Swanton, North Clarendon, Newport, Bennington, and North Springfield on separate days over the next two weeks. Those in need of food can go to these locations on the appointed days and receive a seven-day supply of Meals Ready-to-Eat (MRE) for each member of their household. Those who are ill, have been advised to quarantine, or lack transportation can send a friend or relative to pick up meals for them. Those picking up food can come to the location nearest to them, open their trunk, and the appropriate amount of food will be loaded by members of the Guard. Dates and locations (9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. each day): * Wednesday, April 22 - Franklin County Airport (Highgate/Swanton) * Friday, April 24 - Rutland Southern VT Regional Airport (Clarendon) * Monday, April 27 - Hartness State Airport (Weathersfield/Springfield) * Tuesday, April 28 - William H Morse State Airport (Bennington) * Wednesday, April 29 - Northeast Kingdom International Airport (Coventry/Newport) The need for supplemental distribution is being assessed on a week-by-week basis. Please take and enjoy. We do not want these items back. Our hope is that we are able to brighten your day a bit.  What have we been doing? I and team member, Jill Laramie, have been diligently working to inventory and weed the adult collection. Many items had not circulated in excess of 5 years. The shelves were crowded and a number of books in non-circulating condition. Now the shelves are refreshed, dusted, awaiting new and then ready peruse. Sacha, our youth librarian has been working remotely from home posting on social media, reading stories – found on our youth web page- posting links for kids and families, researching new books and working on some kind of a Summer Program offering.  The good news – I have been researching titles for days and weeks. Two orders for adult books and two orders for adult audio books have been submitted. I received 31 new Large Print books. Displays have been refreshed and much work in the cloud has been done in our catalog. In this time of Covid-19 my annual NYC Book Expo was cancelled.   We look forward to seeing you and welcoming new patrons. Prior to joining Black River, Mr. Fersch—a ten year teaching veteran of public schools—founded and ran an independent school in New Hampshire (The Penn Program) for several years. As a teacher and educational leader, Fersch has been regularly recognized for his innovative and progressive educational methods, aiming to integrate school and community to help foster meaningful opportunities for children to realize both their own potential and that of the communities of which they are a part. Outside of teaching, Fersch is an avid outdoorsman who has cycled across the country twice, run several trail marathons, thru-hiked the Appalachian and Long Trails, and enjoyed countless hours of slow, quiet time in the beautiful New England outdoors. A registered yoga teacher working towards completing his 500-hour certification, Fersch also has integrated yoga, meditation, and mindfulness into his work for years. Finally, and quite importantly, he is a grateful husband, a father-to-be, a brother, and son.  He is enthusiastic and grateful to be given the opportunity to be the inaugural Head of School at Black River Independent School. The mission and vision of the Committee closely aligns with his educational beliefs and philosophy.
